Question about Briggs & Stratton Briggs Stratton Intek V - Twin Vertical Ohv Engine with Electric Start 22 Hp, 1" X 3 5/32" Shaft, ModelNo. 44K777 - 0027 - E1

Open Question

I have a troy Built riding lawn mower with a Briggs and Stratton motor. I have replaced the air filter and the spark plug and the engine surges and then shuts off. I have noticed that the plug has been bent down almost touching the electrode on the plug. I am using the right plug RC12YC. The model of the enngine is 311777-0148-E1. What could be wrong??

What is causing the spark plug to be damaged? The answer you gave me doesn't seem to fit the problem. The engine I have is a 17hp Intek. What other solutions might you have?

This was a waste of money. I did exactly what you said and the same results no change in performance at all. It still surges and eventually will stall. The only way around it is to play around with the throttle and put it in a choke and then gently backoff so it runs smoothly but this is not right. Any other suggestions? Ron

these are common for doing this ,if you dont want to pull it down and hone the cyl. then i would use a heavier oil say 20w/50and that will probabley solve your problem

SOURCE: Lawn mower won't start

to check for firing remove the spark plug insert it in the plug boot and pull the rope while watching to see if the plug sparks be carefull not to touch the plug electrode while pulling the rope or it will shock you. If you don't have a spark, try a different plug. If still no spark the coil could be bad.

sounds like you have something stuck on the blades. if not check to see if you can turn the blades by hand all the way around. its possible the spindle bearings locked up. (with the engine off)

Troy-Bilt Briggs & Stratton 550 restarting

Troy, Unless you are using old fuel (it breaks down after 1 week) it sounds like you have a faulty spark plug. Replace this first, drain any old fuel and replace with fresh fuel (premium unleaded). A faulty plug will work one minute but then fail like you have described.

White smoke and oil spewing out of troy built briggs and stratton 650 series 190cc mower

Check your oil level. If it is way over full, smell it to see if it smells like gasoline. If it does, you have a carburetor leaking gas into the engine crankcase. If you recently had the mower over on its side for blade changing or inspection, you have gotten oil up on top of the piston and it should burn off in a few minutes of running. Check your air filter to see if it is soaked with oil, replace it if it is.

Need a fuel tank for a Troy Bilt mower

You won't find the fuel tank on MTD's site because it is part of the engine. MTD makes the mower, Briggs and Stratton makes the engine. Get the model and type number off the engine and search Briggs and Stratton's site or post it here and I will tell you the part #. Dwain
