Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

I have a Pioneer SX1250 receiver it works , but the protect circuit relay kicks off and then back on after a few seconds . I haven't noticed any noises in the audio when it is on and there are no over heating problems I can detect. There is no noticable distortion.

Cool Receiver! I have worked on many of them. Your regulator circuit will need a few zener diodes and possible some caps. It's amazing how good the capacitors are in these though, but the zener diodes fail all the time. I like replacing them all. Larry's Electronics ledstiles@hotmail.com

Pioneer amplifier vsx-d512 overload message

This indicates the audio output stage in the receiver is loading down and triggering the overload protection circuit to kick in. Check the speaker wires for shorts, if okay! you will need a professional to assess the cost for repair.

With the power off try holding Tune + and Auto surround/stream direct buttons for a few seconds to reset the protection circuits. Also, check the back panel for any loose wires. If a speaker wire is touching the metal it can overload the unit.
Make sure to keep 8" of empty space above the unit for air, as overheating can cause this problem. If it fails again, there could be bigger problems, so get it checked

Tone switch causing loud pop in speakers tripping protectiveRelay

The tone control on this one sounds like it is an active one and either using the low or high pass filter you would be boosting the higher or lower frequencies. Boosting the lower frequecies will be harder on the amplifier, in which case if you would like to use then you may need to connect speakers with a lower impedance or higher sensitivity.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

That distinct click is the relay activating. It is the built-in protection common to designs of this period. The only time the relay will not activate is when the protection circuitry has detected a fault in the amplifier/output stake. This would call for replacement of the defective components most likely a transistor complimentary pair or in some instances a large IC power pack.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Pioneer SX-950

Speaker Relay Output Switch was a common problem with most SX models of the 70's. It's the switch you hear click on after about 4 seconds of power switch being turned on. It's still avail. thru Pioneer parts for around $45.

Pioneer VSX-D702s receiver - no sound - need help/circuit plan

The unit is in what is called "protect" mode. A problem was detected in the final output stage and that stage is turned off. The most common reason for this is failed output transistors. This is a simple repair for any repair shop and will cost about $10-$15 for parts plus the local labor charge. Expect that the output transistors plus a few supporting parts to be replaced. Most of the time, only one channel is badm, but due to the design of the protection circuit, both channels are turned off.
