Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Elite Console

1 Answer

My brand new 360 Elite won't detect the 120GB hard drive. It does detect my old 20GB drive from my old 360 Arcade, along with all the data on it. It also detects the same 120GB as a 'MU' (memory unit) coming out of the rear USB port, but only as a 16GB MU.

You're response seemed to point to the data transfer procedure. This isn't the issue at the moment. Let me repeat my problem: brand new 360 Elite 120GB, assembled Dec.24,2009. Right out of the box, the unit DOES NOT DETECT THE 120GB HARD DRIVE. Period. Any suggestions?

Just to be clear. My brand new 360 Elite 120GB will not detect its Hard Drive. Period. This isn't a data transfer problem. I know how to move my old data from my old 20GB to a new drive. This is about my brand new 120GB Elite not recognizing its own HD. Ideas? I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

Hi,
Connect the DMK after you power up...And make sure the USB cord is attached to the USB ports in the BACK of the unit, not the front.
The steps for the same can be found at:
http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/nxe/hardware/accessories/storage/harddrivetransferkit.aspx

Please let me know if you need any other information.

You need to format the drive to read FAT32. Search up partition programs on download.com for example and format your drive. After that it will read it just fine

    Hi,

There is a solution from microsoft that I am sending across, which should resolve the problem.

If it does not you will have to get it replaced by calling customer care which should be easy as yours is a new one.

Okay, the Xbox 360 isn't reverse compatable, meaning you can't play regular xbox 360 games on it. The only version that is reverse compatable is the Xbox 360 Elite. SOrry :(

My 360 will come on without harddrive in but if i put it in it'll tell me to contact customer support

Your problem is the hard drive just get a new hard drive and you should be good to go... Sadly 20gb is 60$, 60gb is 100$ and 120gb is 150$ but it's really the only way to get it working again. I had the same problem about a week ago with a 120gb hard drive that I got off of ebay... my first clue should've been that it was 50$.

Can i put my x box 360 hard drive on an xbox arcade.

I assume you mean the XBOX 360 Arcade system.
Your 360 hard drive will work on all 360 systems.
It does not matter if you have a Pro or Elite or Arcade system, the Hard Drive is the same.

Hard drive not read

Thats because the elite will only recognize a 60gb or higher. Pretty much you are keeping your xbox from operating at it's full potential.

Xbox 360

The Arcade model comes with no harddrive, no hdmi (for digital connection to an HDTV), and I beleive the controller is wired instead of wireless. If you are planning on just playing games then the arcade may be a good choice for you as it's cheaper but you may find yourself wanting a hard drive sooner than later. Without a hard drive you will not be able to purchase or rent movies and you will not be able to download game demos and Xbox Live Arcade games. To compensate Microsoft includes a disc with some of the greatest hits of XBox Live Arcade with the Arcade version. The Pro comes with a 20GB hard drive but still no HDMI. The Elite version has a 120GB hard drive and HDMI. For most people the Pro is the one to get. If you were to get the Arcade then purchase a hard drive later you will pay more than the price of the pro.

Premium comes with a 20gb harddrive, and the Elite comes with a 120gb harddrive. The Arcade / Basic do not come with harddrives.
