Question about Philips 50PF9631D 50 in. HD-Ready Plasma Television
My 50pf9631d/37 model i think is around 5 years old. Over the last year would sometimes turn off, then turn back on every once in a while. Just turned it on and now there is no picture or sound, won't even respond to the remotes. I have to unplug it to turn it off. Now there's just a red light that blinks 7 times in the lower right side corner. I googled this problem and appears many others are having the same problem. I didn't see any solutions.

I had this problem on a 42" Philips Ambilight. After reading in another forum, opened up the back, and found 2 leaking capacitors on the center circuit board (main power supply pc board) toward the bottom. Tops of the capacitors were bludged out (10v 3300uF) and leaking electrolytes. Unsoldered the old ones myself, went to Radio Shack. They were out, so order 12 on ebay for $6.63 including shipping. Resoldered and works fine. Can't do it yourself? Take the board out (just unhook the cables & unscrew it ), and take it to a computer shop or tv repair or someone who knows how to solder, and have them change them. Piece of cake!

Here is a photo of the board where I have removed the two from my TV. You can see the two open holes.

SOURCE: I have a philips 50
Two problems: first, tv turns off for about 10 seconds after being on awhile, then turns back on. 2nd, picture will sometimes go black horizontally displaying only half of the upper screen. This will go on for about an hour off and on.

Your 7 blinks (error code) means that your 8.6 vdc in the power supply section is faulty. This was sense by the standy-by power supply's initial test. This voltage is easy to locate in the power supply board, each output voltage is written in the board itself. Concentrate in its regulator circuitry. Look for open fusible resistor, shorted transistor and leaky/dried capacitor. The unit is disable unless you fix this 8.6vdc fault.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.
