Message on printer : "cannot recognize ink cartridges"

I just put in a new black ink cartridge, but received this message on the printer screen. Cannot operate printer now.

Double check to see if the cartridges that came with your machine are really the correct ones. And if they are then make sure they are snapped in securely as they must make a solid contact to read the cartidges. Also make sure the drivers and software are properly installed onto your computer.Also make sure that the tape that is usually on the cartridges to protect them in handling and shipping are removed before installation.

i had the same problem! I replaced two cartidges at once and one of the lights continued to stay red,The red light stayed on and therefore the printer would not print !!!!!! I decided to fool the printer-----I took the cartridge out and inserted into my chip resetter and then back into the printer--bingo worked like a charm.....I noticed the same type of problem when I changed ink cartidges befor when I was using different types of ink.
I think that the printer doesnot always know that there is still ink in the cartridge that has been removed and then reinserted into the printer again even if its a new one. Using the chip resetter reprograms the cartridge. Make sure the cartridges are not expired. The chip resetter cost about nine dallars--buy one on line. good luck-----Glenn

Try pressing down on the cartridges after inserting them and closing the top of the cartridge carriage. Worked like a champ on my R320 printer!
Cleaning the contacts on the cartridge with a soft tissue may help too.

i had this happen to me twice with two different people, it is highly possible that your black inks are defective, its also highly possible that one of the other inks are causing this error. take them all out, and put one and see what happens, do this one at a time until you see something screwey.

also possible, the contacts on the printhead are dirty or are pushed in.

also possible, bad printhead.

My Dad bought new ink cartridges ( black and color) and installed them in the printer and it is not registering that they are installed. What are some things I should check for and how can I fix this????


After installing new ink cartridges in your Dell all-in-one 926 printer, you may receive an error message telling you the print does not recognize the new cartridges. Refilled or third-party cartridges, which Dell does not recommend using with the 926, often trigger the error message. You may also receive this error after you have been using the same ink cartridges for some time. Whether the cartridges are new or not, the error can be caused by a number of sources. Following the steps below should clear up print cartridge problem.

    Open the Dell 926's front cover with the power on and wait for the cartridge carriage to come to a stop. Remove the ink cartridges by pressing on the tabs at the top of each cartridge. Check the cartridges to make sure you have removed all of the blue protective plastic film. Look for the "Dell" logo stamped into the cartridges' lids to ensure they are genuine cartridges.

    Clean the shiny metal portions of the ink cartridges with a damp microfiber cloth. Allow each cartridge to dry completely.

    Clean out any paper, staples or other debris that you may be able to see, then reinsert the cartridges into their appropriate slots. Put the black ink cartridge into the left slot and the color cartridge into the right slot. Make sure both click back into place.

    Close the Dell 926's front cover and turn off the printer. Unplug the power cord and USB cable from the printer for five seconds, then reconnect them.


  • If your Dell 926 fails to recognize the print cartridges after following the above instructions,

    take it to a repair shop for servicing.

    Printer does not recognize ink cartridge.


    Remove the black cartridge and gently wipe the contacts on it with a dry cloth. Put the cartridge back in. If the error message is still there, I think you should buy a new black cartridge.

    Hello ,

    Start by opening your ink cover and read the LCD screen; this will alert you as to which ink cartridge is not being recognized; make sure the cartridge that it is telling you is empty has been changed.

    If the unit is still not recognizing the cartridge you have changed, follow the steps below.

    1. Unplug the power cord for the printer unit.
    2. Open the ink cartridge cover and remove all ink cartridges.
    3. Close the ink cartridge cover.
    4. Plug the power cord back in.
    5. Reinstall the ink cartridges.

    Try the following:

    1. Open the printer access door.
    2. Put out both ink cartridges and the printhead.
    3. Let the printer access door open.
    4. Put out all paper.
    5. Pull out the ac adapter at the back of the printer.
    6. Wait 60 sec.
    7. Pull in AC adapter.
    8. Wait 30 sec. then turn on the printer
    9: Wait for the error message: Printer access door open.
    10. Close the printer access door.
    11. Wait for the error message: Printhead is missing.
    12. Open the access door and put in only the printhead and the close the access door.
    13. Wait for the error message: both ink cartridges are missing.
    14. Open access door, put in only the black ink cartridge, then close the acess door.
    15. Wait for the error message: Color ink cartridge is missing.
    16. Open access door, put in the color ink cartridge and then close the access door.

    If the error is solved, do a firmwareupdate right now.

    Epson Workforce 600 "ink cartridge cannot be recognized" error


    My printer quit printing blue after I cleaned the print heads. What can I do? I tried recharging the cyan cartridge and cleaning the print heads again. it's still not working! GRR!!

    Printer cannot find new black cartridge. Left cartridge missing.


    The electronics are bad on your compatible and your printer can't recognize it's there. Return this cartridge and get your money back. The next cartridge you buy, ask if the electronics have been tested to be functional. I recommend refils from Cartridge World or Office Depot.

    Compatibility of Ink cartidge.


    The MP600 does not use the 40 or 41 cartridges, it uses individual color (and black) ink tanks. But other models (MP190, MP460, MP470, etc) do use these cartridges. The error message you are receiving indicates that the printer does not recognize the cartridge you installed as a valid black ink cartridge. This can mean that either the cartridge is faulty, or that the printer has a problem.
    I would suggest trying another new cartridge, and if you still get the same error, to contact Canon for support options if the unit is still in warranty.

    Printer says ink cartridge not recognized.


    Take the black ink cartridge back to the person who refilled it. The Microchip that's on the cartridge was not reset properly that's why the printer is returning that error.

    You can try some steps before you take it to them to verify it.
    1: reseat (take out and put back in) the cartridges into place
    2: buy another black cartridge just to check if it will be recognized by the printer, if it does recognize it we know the cartridge is defective. If a new cartridge is also not recognize, start to check your warranty option with the manufacturer...
