Canon Colour Laser Printer MF8180C - Cartrdige Alignment Problem

Replaced the K cartridge. After closing the lid the printer did not print anything just spat out a blank piece of paper. Went to replace K cartridge again and noticed the cartridge was not in-line prooperly. Eased it out and put it back in. Now printer is saying to replace all cartridges C, M, Y and K. It looks like the alignment of the cartrige holder is out. Any ideas?

SOURCE: new cartridge check print head alignment

Generally speaking this is the procedure for most Canon printers. post your model # if these instructions don't work for you,

With the printer drivers installed you only need to carry out one further operation and that is the Print Head Alignment. Make sure you have some plain A4 (8 1/2 X 11) paper loaded then click on the Start button and select Printers and Faxes in the Settings. Right click the Canon printer icon and select Properties. On the Properties panel select the Maintenance tab and then click on the Print Head Alignment button. A pattern is printed, you must look carefully at each Column and decide which colour has the least lines i.e. the smoothest looking patch and enter the number (-3 to +7 ) in each of the eight boxes

SOURCE: Canon PIXMA MP530 Error Code 5100

OK. It sounds like there's something on the carriage bar restricting the movement of the ink carrier. Perhaps some ink got on the bar.
Try taking a clean lintfree rag dampened with rubbing alcohol and clean the bar. This may have to be repeated a number of times to get the foreign matter off the bar and the ink carriage.
Let me know if this helps. iF it does not we can try something else.

How to install ink catridge

Turn the printer on.
Lift the lid that covers the print-head mechanism.
Check for any instructions on the inside of the lid.
After a few seconds, the ink-cartridges will slide to a new position.
Unlock the cartridge from its socket, either by moving the lever,
or by pushing-down on the cartridge, and gently lift it out.

Insert the new cartridge. Lock it into the socket.
Run a "print-head" alignment cycle, for optimal colour-printing.

The cartridges won't rotate on my Canon imageCLASS MF8180C to allow me to change cartridges

This can be caused by a number of different reasons. Does the carriage TRY to rotate when you press the button? The lid needs to be closed when you push the rotate button. Try removing the cartridge you can see, and then close and try again. This may need to be seen by a tech. Clarify the issues and what happened previous to this situation, and I wil try to help further as I am very familiar with this machine.

Dont know how to change colour cartridges

Turn the printer on and open the lid. After a short while, the printer carriage unit containing the print head and ink cartridges will stop right in the middle of the printer, so you can easily replace the ink cartridges. After replacing them and ensuring they're fully seated, simply close the lid. The printer will run a few quick self-diagnostic checks and run a purge cycle, and it'll be good to go.
