I have a yamaha 60fe i think is 1985, charging problem

I have a yamaha 60fe i think it is 1985, it doesn't charging the battery, do i change the magneto or something else?

I f you find the regulator, there will be three wires ln the connector the same color(yellow?) any pair of these should produce 50-60v AC with the engine running. If you get AC voltage, then it is likely a regulator problem

The first things that I would check is the Stator and the Regulator Rectifier. To check the stator and the Rectifier I would suggesting you get the repair manual. The repair manual is a Mechanics best friend. Not all bikes are the same and the manual will help with the diagnostics of both. Most of the time you can buy a manual on CD from ebay for about $5 to $11 dollars which is cheap compared to the paper back price.

Have 1985 w150 pick up that's not charging, replaced battery,voltage regulator,an alternator, an still not charging


1985 WOW ! does it run at all ? if it does , check battery voltage, should be between 12---14 volts, check alternator also, a parts store can do this for you ! is your regulator outside your alternator ? cause most new alternators have them inside the alternator ! just thinking out loud, but stranger things have happened ! are these new parts the correct ones for your make & model ? battery terminals clean, tight ! make sure all GROUNDS are good ! very important ! what condition are your battery cables ? is your BELT good, tight, not slipping !!! sure your starter & solonoid OK ! not shorting out, from dirt, grease, oil, etc., all fuses OK! I think we covered it, take your time, go over what I mentioned, see it you find the problem, good luck !

My 85 maxim will start if u push it and continue to start the rest of the day but once it cools down you will have to push it again any ideas


Sounds like you battery isn't holding charge overnight. If it was the alternator, it wouldn't start during the day so the alternator sounds fine.

Make sure the battery that is on it is the right one for the bike.

Try taking the battery off the bike and using a battery charger to charge it overnight. If that doesn't work, I'm afraid it's going to need a new battery.

Gets no spark and ive replaced the plugs wires ignitor and the pick-up and still no spark


Are you starting with aa charged battery? Are you starting with an electric starter or does this bike have a kick starter? Did you measure if you have any voltage coming out of your generator?

Hi, Jp_richar82 perform the following tests:
1. Fill acid type batteries to proper levels.
2. Charge battery overnight at 1-2 amps you need 12.5 volts or better after charging and it must be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test you may have cursory readings of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage the battery is faulty and must be replaced, AGM batteries have this issue more so than lead acid types.
3. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
4. Hook up battery positive cable, then with your multimeter on the milliamp scale connect one lead to the negative battery post and the other lead to the ground cable. The meter should read 3 milliamps or less, 10 milliamps with a radio, 15 milliamps with radio and CB. If your multimeter reads higher you need to isolate the circuit by pulling fuses and circuit breakers one at a time and observe multimeter for a drop in amperage then get out your test light and track down the short in that circuit.
5. Hook up the multimeter to the battery set it to DC volts and start the engine if multimeter falls below 9.0 volts while cranking you need to perform a proper load test on the battery and replace if necessary.
6. With the engine running at 3600 RPM, the battery should read 14.3-14.7 volts if not continue tests.
7. Unplug the voltage regulator from the alternator at crankcase by the front of the primary cover.
8. To test voltage regulator go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8EjV0IjW9Q
9. With the multimeter set to the ohms scale, with one lead grounded, touch an alternator pin ohmmeter should read infinity, if not replace the stator.
10. With both leads touching alternator pins, multimeter should read 0.1 to 0.2 ohms on 1989 and later models. 0.2 to 0.4 ohms 1988 and earlier models, if not replace the stator.
11. With the multimeter set on AC volts scale, both leads touching alternator pins multimeter should read 16 to 20 volts AC for every 1000 RPM'S 1989 and later and 19 to 26 volts AC for every 1000 RPMS. If not replace the rotor.
12. Check for excessive wattage load from headlight

Yamaha maxim xj 700 1985 wont start


Check the wiring inside the headlight case--that's where the wiring for the bar controls are connected into the main wiring harness. Look for loose or corroded connections. Try to get the starter working correctly, then concentrate on getting the engine to run. No-run usually means either no fuel into the cylinders or no spark to ignite the fire. Make sure to keep the battery charged while running the starter for testing.

1985 maxim x weak spark fine and intermiting pickup coiles seem ok


YICS ignition is very voltage sensitive.... meaning no battery charge operation means poor ignition.
