Normal causes for that would be by-pass valve not in proper position, or defective, allowing cold to mix with hot, or thermostat not touching up against tank properly, or defective. Do you know where that thermostat is?
Look where the black foam cover is, with white letters, below pressure relief valve. One is lettered ECO, other THERM. If you note where the wires go, so as not to mix them up , and pull them off, then peel back the foam cover, you'll see 2 little round discs, that are held against the tank by a small spring. They need to be checked that they are in there properly and are up against the aluminum tank.

The yellow is caused because the flame does not have enough oxygen. Per your explanation that is being caused because the exaust is not working. Fix the exaust problem and it probably will begin opperating properly.

Have you checked by-pass at rear of heater to make sure all valves in proper position for normal operation? What type of flame are you getting while heating, is it nice and blue, and not jumping too far off burner and roaring?

Brand new unit model G6A-8E. when i first hit the switch it comes on fine and heats water. at a later point (and it seems to be intermittant), when it goes to re-ignite to reheat the water it will not...

Check and adjust igniter probe(s) so that they are in front of the flame good. When you say it goes to re-ignite, can you hear, or see spark happening at igniter, but burner just won't catch?

Have an G6A-8E Atwood water heater. It Starts fine and shuts down after a couple of seconds. I can see the diode in the control board continue to spark after ignition I replaced the igniter.

If it has the little thermal cut-off in power wire to thermostat (has a little plastic jacket over it) try removing it, and connect female spade from power wire, directly to male spade on thermostat, and see what happens. Also, make sure electrode is positioned in flame good for flame sensing properly.

ATWOOD WATER HEATER

you will need to have a 115 curent for electric, run a line off the panel box, turn off water to the house drain it down, disconnect the lp gas line and cap it off, remove the water heater, install the new heater run the cold side water to the cold side {blue on the heater} the hot side to the red, take the cover plate off on the water heater run the wires, hook up the groung wire then the red and white wires to the wires comming off the panel box,, fill the water heater with water have a open faucet on the hot side, and bleed the air out, DO NOT TURN ON ELECTRIC TILL THE AIR IS OUT OF TANK AND WATER IS FLOWING THRU COMPLETELY, after you get water commming out of the faucet turn it off and turn the electric on to the water heater ,, wait about 30 min, you will have warm after an hour it will be hot and you are done,, good luck write me if you have questions, gary1121@aol.com
