Computer wont boot completely up missing or corrupt files


Run the Check Disk Utility.

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc or a operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot from it. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with white letters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice the percentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run to completion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows. Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair when the options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recovery console and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

In the disk you burned, the bios can't read a zip file, the file needs to be extracted and as far as I remember you need to use a diskette instead of a cd. but I will look into it now.

Please note, BIOS update is only recommended when experiencing technical difficulties with your system, And is not recommended to be performed regularly.

Moreover, due to the nature of BIOS update, there is certain level of dangers involved. BIOS update must be performed with extreme caution . During BIOS update process, your system must be maintained without interference or power loss to prevent unexpected damage.

Get the 1008 version

its under Bios and 3rd entry, all os version 1008
File is in zip format, needs to be extracted.
the rom file inside needs to be placed in a diskette.

But im not perfectly sure what you are trying todo or why it is asking for it. il have to look into this more. <p><b>Resolution:</b><br /> <p>The USB Flash Drive must be configured with an active primary MS-DOS partition. It must also contain the boot files. Follow the steps below to create a bootable USB Flash Drive. <br /> <p><b>Requirements:</b><br /> <ul> <li> Motherboard with BIOS that supports USB boot. <li> USB Flash Drive that may be erased. <li> Bootable floppy disk or CD with Fdisk and Format commands. </li></ul> <p><b>Directions:</b><br /> <ol> <li> Plug in the USB Flash Drive. <li> Make the USB drive the only bootable hard drive. <b>Method 1:</b><br />If available, change the BIOS settings for the hard drive sequence, making sure the USB device is at the top of the list above all other hard drives. Not all BIOS Setup Utilities have this option. <b> Method 2:</b><br /> Disable all hard drives in the BIOS. In some BIOS Setup Utilities you can disable the individual hard drives, while in others you will need to disable the controller. <b> Method 3:</b><br /> Unplug all hard drive cables inside the case. Intel 845gvsr mainboard no display problem


this problem is normal because of the BIOS chip failure normally

symptoms:
when u get ram out and start computer it gives beeps and when u put back the ram and power on PC it gives no beep no display.

Fix the problem:
tools required:
1. hot air gun
2. 512kb fresh bios chip/ if the old chip is right then no need of newer one
3. p3 mainboard (with the BIOS socket) for reprogramming the chip
4. dos bootable hard disk
5. bios bin file.
have not the file ,
don't worry: this file can be made from the bios chip of a working mainboard using the bios flash utility.
flashing software: best is Uniflash.

Procedure:
1. with hot gun, get the bios chip out of the board,
2. reprogramme the chio with correct bin file.
3. put the bios back

Reprogramming:
copy the file in dos bootable hd
run the hdd on p-3 board
pull the bios out of running board (with slight care)
put the 845gvsr bios chip in place of p-3 bios
run uniflash and flash the bios
power of p-3 computer and get bios out

The VAIO Hardware Diagnostics utility can be used to perform various tests to ensure the computer is working properly and diagnose hardware issues when they occur. Follow this procedure to perform a Quick Test or Individual tests using this utility.
  1. Close all open programs. NOTE: If the VAIO Recovery Center application is already open, proceed with step 3.
  2. Open the VAIO Recovery Center application. NOTES:
    • If the VAIO Hardware Diagnostics window is already open, proceed with step 4.
    • The VAIO Recovery Center software can be accessed from the Start menu. Click the Start button, click the VAIO Recovery Center folder and then click VAIO Recovery Center .
    • If you cannot start the operating system, the VAIO Recovery Center software can be accessed by pressing the F10 key at the BIOS screen, but all the hardware component tests may not be available.
    • You also can access the VAIO Recovery Center software by booting the computer using the Recovery Discs. Insert Recovery Disc #1 and then restart the computer.
  3. In the VAIO Recovery Center window, under Choose a program , click VAIO Hardware Diagnostics .
  4. In the VAIO Hardware Diagnostics , click the Start button.
  5. On the Quick Test tab, click the Run Test button. NOTES:
    • To perform any of the individual tests available within the VAIO Hardware Diagnostics utility, click the Individual Test tab.

Upon reccomendation from a Microsoft tech and Acer, I have downloaded the current version of Bios update form my M5641, but have no istructions on how to perform the update. Please help


Ok, you must make a bootable DOS floppy diskette, or a bootable DOS CDrom if the machine has no floppy drive. You can download Windows executable DOS boot disk images here: http:bootdisk.com. I prefer DRDOS 7. There is usually a flashing utility and bios image file that you must copy to the floppy boot disk.

If your not very DOSSY, after the machine boots from the boot disk, you do a DIR, and find the name of the flashing utility. You enter that name at the command prompt: A:/. like this:

A:/flash_utility /h

That will give you help on how to use the utility.
But newer machines have smart bios that only need one file put on the boot disk, and everything is automatic.

Making a bootable CDrom requires special software that you must buy. Or you can use a Knoppix live CD, but you'll need one CD writer and one CDrom. It's ok if both are writers, or even if one is a DVD drive.

Bootdisk.com has bootable CDrom image files. But I only know how to get files inside the image file using Linux. There are programs for Windows that can edit a CD image file. Google 'edit .iso file. And don't pay money. There are good freeware programs. One is called daemontools.

You must copy the bios file(s) to the CD image, and burn the CD. Then boot with it, and do like I described above.

All latest Motherboards today,ensure that upgrades are easily obtained by incorporating the system BIOS in a FLASH Memory component. With
FLASH BIOS, there is no need to replace an EPROM component. Once downloaded, the upgrade utility fits on a floppy disc allowing the user to save, verify and update the system BIOS. A hard drive or a network drive can also be used to run the newer upgrade utilities. However, memory managers can not be installed while upgrading.
Most pre-Pentium motherboards do not have a Flash BIOS. The following instructions therefore do not apply to these boards. If your motherboard does not have a Flash BIOS (EEPROM) you will need to use an EPROM programmer to re-program the BIOS chip. See your dealer for more information about
this.

Please read the following instructions in full before starting a Flash BIOS upgrade:

A. Create a Bootable Floppy (in DOS)

•With a non-formatted disk, type the following:

format a:/s

•If using a formatted disk, type:

sys a:

This procedure will ensure a clean boot when you

are flashing the new BIOS.

B. Download the BIOS file

•Download the correct BIOS file by clicking on

the file name of the BIOS file you wish to download.

•Save the BIOS file and the Flash Utility file in the boot disk you have created. Unzip the BIOS file and the flash utility file. If you don't have an "unzip" utility, download the WinZip from www.winzip.com or www.pkware.com. Most CD ROMs found in computer magazines, have a shareware version of WinZip on them.

For AMI BIOS

Once the BIOS has been successfully loaded, remove the floppy disk and reboot the system holding the "END" key prior to power on until you enter CMOS setup. If you do not do this the first time booting up after upgrading the BIOS, the system will hang.

Have you booted up under DOS? Booting in Windows is another common cause for getting a "Memory Insufficient" error message when attempting to flash a BIOS. Make sure to boot up to DOS with a minimum set of drivers. Important: Booting in DOS does not mean selecting "Restart computer in MS-DOS Mode" from Windows98/95 shutdown menu or going to Prompt mode in WindowsNT, but rather following the above procedure (format a: /s and rebooting from a:).
Have you entered the full file name of the flash utility and the BIOS plus its extension? Do not forget that often you will need to add a drive letter (a:) before flashing the BIOS. Example: when asked for file name of new BIOS file which is on your floppy disk, in case you're working from c: your will need to type a:15j900.bin, rather than 615j900.bin only.

Bios update using batch


you need the bios update file from your manufacturer and the flashing program that is either included in the package or also avaialbe on the same website, then you basicly need a bootdisk to start up dos and perform the upgrade.
