The cable for a HDD is dependent on the type of HDD it is. The two msot common type of cables today, are IDE and Sata cables for their respective drives. If it's an IDE HDD, you can find the appropriate cables here. If you have a Sata HDD, you can find the cables here.

Any computer store should carry both PATA (wide, usually grey, usually about 2 1/2 inches wide as I recall) or SATA (skinny cord, maybe 1/2 inch wide) hard drive connectors. They're inexpensive. If you don't have a store nearby, a site such as newegg.com will have them available as well.

Computer power supply does not work

Need to know how old a computer it is as over the years the power supplies' use different methods of starting.

On newer computers the power supply is connected to the mother board by a 20 or 22 pin connector. The power button on the computer is just a momentary switch to start the computer. Make sure the large connector is firmly seated in the mother board. If you are comfortable with doing that have someone else check it. You do not want to damage the connector or mother board. You need to have some sort of anti static device conntected to your body to avoid any static discharge that could damage the mother board.

Cannot boot in Slave mode

i have never heared of any hardrive being able to boot when it is set as slave, as the master is always the 'C' drive from which windows looks for the master boot record. why, if you have only one hard drive is it set as slave?, it doesnt make sense. No hard drive will boot up if there is no jumper cap on it, as the motherboard needs to know which hd is master and has the o.s on it.
