Question about Toshiba DVR620 DVD Recorder/VCR

3 Answers

Just got this Toshiba DVR620KU and need to record from home movie VHS to DVD. Have DVD-R, I have set the time, have it on the program VHS to DVD, I start the VHS, put it on pause. Go DVD, select rec mode, but when I push Dubbing, I get the red circle with the line through it on the bottom right of the screen. The DV/VCR symbols flash 4 or 5 times, then go off. What is it trying to tell me?

Good one!

Sounds like you are doing everything right. Only things I can think of are:

- Make sure the disc is a blank one.
- Try a different disc.
- Make sure the tape you are trying to dub is not encoded with Macrovision copyguarding. If it is a home-made recording then you are OK, but a factory recording on a store bought tape may cause some difficulties.

If you are still having troubles try a complete 15 minute reset by unplugging from the power source.

Good luck!

Yes, I had the same problem with my DVR610KU when trying to dub my personal-recorded VHS tapes to DVD. After several failed attempts, I called Toshiba 1-800-631-3811 and they said to "skip step # 7" on page 50 of the manual. Odd, but true. It worked there after. Note that I have model is DVR610KU, not DVR620KU, but it sure sounds the same to me. I did not have to reset the power source. I am using DVD-R discs. Also, I found that it I could only get the dubbing to work with "L1" input setting, not L2 or L3 on my unit! The instruction manual lacks a LOT in organization and especially with errors in it. Be sure to "finalize" the disc when done dubbing to maximize its compatibility in other DVDs or PCs. It seems to me that the DVD-R discs have the most compatibility. The discs will play in the Toshiba unit without "finalizing".
    I hope this helps.

Thanks-- we had called Toshiba and that's about the gist of their answer...

Thank you BillyBob19959 - Skipping step #7 on the DVR620KU unit worked as well. Provided you load a new DVD disk and set the dubbing option from VCR to DVD, all you need to do is load the blank DVD, insert the VCR cassette, and press the dubbing button. Thank you again!

We didn't have a "Guide" button on our remote but the skipping #7 step worked on our machine too.

I have Magnavox DVD player/vcr DV225MG9, does it record from vhs onto dvds? And if not, what do I need to get so that I can copy all of these old vhs movies to dvds?

it won't record dvd's its only a dvd player. only the vcr records
if the vhs movies your trying to record are movies like star wars and stuff like that it's copy protected and no worth the trouble. if it's home movies or something you recorded from tv they might work. if you get a dvd recorder/vhs player.

If the entire VHS is full then you can easily transfer the VHS contents to the DVD. The video will play while it is recording onto the DVD, but you don't have to have it hooked up to any TV for it to record. Now if you don't know how long the VHS content is that you want to record to DVD, then you will have to hook up the player to a TV so that you can press stop when you reach the end of the content you want recorded. At least this is true in the way that I use to transfer VHS to DVD:

1) Turn on the unit
2) Insert VHS tape
3) Insert DVD-+R or DVD-+ RW
4) Using remote, press VCR
5)Using remote, press play then pause the tape where you want to start recording.
6)Using remote, press DVD
7) Using the remote, press DUBBING. The VHS should start to play and the DVD should start recording

When using this method, don't hit the RECORD button!

I hope this helps!

I have a Magnavox ZV427MG9. I follow all directions in manual for dubbing VHS home movies to DVD but when I try to play the DVD back there's nothing on them. What am I doing wrong?

Depending on the procedure you may be pressing the record button instead of the D.Dubbing or Dubbing button. When recording from VHS to DVD you must first, load the blank DVD and VHS home movies, then play the VHS movies, then PAUSE the VHS movie when you want to START recording... then the only the you have to do is pressing the D.Dubbing button or the Dubbing button. If your VHS tapes starts to play after the Dubbing button is pressed you have been successful in Dubbing.
