To the best of my knowledge this is a pnp device witch stands for plug and play you should not have to download any drivers but you should only have to go in to your properties and adjust the settings
Right click on the desktop and go to properties then in the next window click on settings adjust them to this
Maximum Resolution & Refresh Rate

  • 1440 x 900 @ 75Hz AND in 32bit color
that should salvo your problem :)

Flickering horizontal lines on lonovo T-400. about every 2 seconds

Hi Friend,

I would recommend that if you have any external monitor connect the laptop to the monitor and check if same thing is happening on the external monitor as well.
If Yes, it seems to be the driver issue, kindly install the updated video/graphics driver of the Lenovo system.
If No, it seems that there is physical issue with your Lenovo screen that needs to be checked physically at the repair centre.

If you donot have the external monitor still update the Lenovo graphics/video drivers and check if it fixed the issue, otherwise, take it to the repair centre to get it checked physically.

Thank you.

Laptop is connected to the external LCD monitor, the monitor is on but screen is blank

There are at least 3 display options;

1) Internal monitor of laptop ONLY
2) Internal monitor AND external monitor source
3) External monitor source ONLY

Hold the Fn key down, and tap once on the F5 key.
Hot key through until you find the setting you want.
Release the Fn key

3680 hard drive failed, then replaced, installed Win XP Pro. Sceen non-fuctional, but will operate with external monitor. Do I need drivers or is the screen dead? Thanks, Terry M.

Hi Terry,

Basically you dont need any drivers for the monitor to make it work, as you noticed even if you dont install a driver the monitor will still open for ypu to use it, the problem your facing right now is that the lcd of your laptop might be faulty. the good thing was you can still able to use an external monitor. Just back up the files and bring the computer to a depot so that they can replace the LCD

Thanks for usng Fixya

Looking for a screen for my laptop - dropped it

You could temporarily plug in an external monitor. Look on the side of the laptop. All laptops have a plug in slot for an external monitor. You can also plug in a usb full size keyboard with no software to install

Lcd screen stuck in external screen mode

How to use the function (Fn) keys on the keyboard - ThinkPad T40, T40p, T41, T41p, T42, T42p, T43, T43p

Switching the display output location.
Switch between the computer display and an external monitor. If an external monitor is attached, the computer output is displayed in the following three patterns by turns:
  • External monitor (CRT display)
  • Computer display and external monitor (LCD + CRT display)
  • Computer display (LCD)
Notes:
  • For any operating system other than Windows 2000 or Windows XP, no additional procedure is needed. Just press Fn+F7.
  • This function is not supported if different desktop images are displayed on the computer display and the external monitor (the Extend desktop function).
  • This function does not work while a DVD movie or a video clip is playing.
To enable this function in Windows 2000 and Windows XP, the following procedure is needed:
  1. When you log on to Windows 2000 and Windows XP for the first time, press Fn + F7 and select a display-switching function in the Initial setup window. Since in Windows 2000 and Windows XP multiple users can log on to a single operating system by using different user IDs, each user needs to select the function in the initial setup window when logging on for the first time.
  2. If the Fn + F7 key combination have been assigned to a presentation scheme function, start Presentation Director, and change the settings.

Hard drive crash, not usable at all; downloaded xp drivers and computer drivers but cannot get them installed. Hard drive not recognized.

When you install a new harddrive, it has no Operating System on it.
Windows XP and Windows Vista, are examples of an Operating System.

Each laptop manufacturer, has their own system of changing a laptop harddrive. Some allow you to press a key or two, to put the laptop in a state where it will save the basic Operating System files, and when you install the new harddrive, it will transfer them over to it.

Some laptop manufacturers do have this option.

You either have to take the harddrive out, install it into an external enclosure for a harddrive, (Uses a USB cable) Then attach the external enclosure via the USB cable, to another computer, and use a 'mirror' imaging program to save the Operating System to that computer.

Then the new harddrive is installed in that external enclosure, and the Operating System is 'mirrored' over to it.

Just information for you, as you cannot do this now with a crashed harddrive.
Your option now, is to buy a genuine copy of the Operating System you had on the laptop, and install it.
Not what you wanted to hear, huh?

You need to buy whatever version of Windows XP it had, (WinXP Home or WinXP Pro), or Windows Vista.
If it was Windows Vista, I suggest getting at least the Windows Vista Home Premium version.

I personally prefer Xp over Vista.
Tigerdirect.com, and Newegg.com, have these.
Look for Software>Operating Systems.

OR, you can simply put Ubuntu Linux on it for free.

Dell Inspiron 6000 monitor display problem

Well it is most likely a issue with the Video driver as you are able to boot to the safe mode.I would suggest going back to the safe mode and deleting the present driver for the video from the device manager.before you restart the system just download the latest version from the support.dell.com so that you can reinstall it.Also check in the graphic properties which screen is set to be the defuat.Incase still not working i would suggest reinstalling the operating system before replacing any hardware.
