Question about Dishwashers

2 Answers

I have the KitchenAid dishwasher, K series, I believe it is KUDS03CTSS. The top rack never gets clean. I understand I can clean out a food chopper that may be obstructing waterflow, but how do I do that?

Please go to the above link and get your user manual, it is all in there for you. I also would check out your arm, this too can get blocked up and need cleaning.

Hello Praz639. Begin by doing a physical inspection inside the dishwasher, focusing on the bottom and remove any debris that you find. Then pour two cups of white vinegar into a bowl and set it on the bottom rack. Run your hottest and longest cycle with that bowl of vinegar only in the dishwasher, no soap. This will clean your dishwasher. Next pull out the top drawer and look at the hose that feeds the spinner. If it is out of alignment , or one of the clips has come loose, reattach everything. This should solve your problems. Joe

Hello. If you have taken the other recommended steps, I recommend calling a repair person as the next step involves tearing your machine apart, and without proper training this is dangerous and often difficult to put back together. One last concern. it will void your warranty. Joe

Water will not come out top agitator on my kitcheaid dishwasher

You need to take out the bottom rack of the dishwasher and disassemble the lower spin arm and filters underneath it. You need to get right down to the chopper blade and disassemble and clean out the chopper blade assembly. Make sure there is nothing buried in the little holes. Once done and you are sure it is clean. Reassemble it all. It should work fine. Having said that.......It will happen again in a few washes until you replace the whole chopper blade assembly.

Help! The dishes on the top rack of my kitchenaid dishwasher (KUDS01FKPA0) don't get clean. this problem started last year, and two different things may be happening. A guy replaced a part (a screen with a...

The part he replaced (chopper) is a common problem with this particular machine. If he has removed all residual food particles from the machine, and you have done your part to rinse them thoroughly before loading, I doubt you have the same issue. There could be other possibilities. One: The water inlet valve could be restricting, thereby not allowing the the proper amount of water into the machine. Two: The internal pump impellers may be worn, and not propelling the water upward enough to reach the top rack. Hope this lends a little insight.

Dishes in the top rack not getting clean. Bottom rack is fine.

Your filter/chopper is clogged. You have to clean it out and that will restore water pressure to the top rack.
  1. Remove the bottom rack.
  2. Remove the top rack
  3. Remove bottom Spray arm (turn top nut clock wise)
  4. Take off the delivery tube by turning it clock wise over the heating element ( undo the two clips one at the back and one on top)
  5. Take out the screw for the top screen and remove top
  6. Take one screw out for chopper housing and remove
  7. Remove chopper and clean or replace chopper if broken
Reinstall all parts and test.
That should help please rate your experience. Thanks

The top rack does not get clean. There is a dirty

Most likely the "food grinder" screen is clogged, which limits the flow throught the pump, leaving thehigher dishes unwashed. It's flaw inthe design of whirlpool/kitchenaides. Not only does the screen clog but the teeth on the "grinder" wear down, the girneder does no grinding, and the food particles build up onthe screen, clogging the water flow. Open up the collector, pul out he choer/grinder and clean the screen. Check the teeth on it and if worn, repalce the chopper/grinder. If it happens again , then the choper/grinder driving mechanism is basd -- replace the pump/motor assembly.

DISHWASHER NOT CLEANING TOP RACK DISHES

I had the same problem (no water being delivered to the top rack) and found that the chopper assembly was completely blocked. I removed it, washed it, put the whole thing back together. It works like new now.

Note that it is not easy to get to the chopper assembly. I used the "pump and motor parts" diagram on http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/assets/pdfs/literature/Repair%20Part%20List%20-%208193720.pdf. The inlet protector was especially difficult to get off, but I was able to pry it off to expose and remove the chopper assembly. I cleaned all the parts I removed really well before re-installing.

The top rack is not getting clean.

This is one common possibility
It may be the food chopper assembly. Mine broke last year from a toothpick,
the food doesn't get chopped because the blades are broken, then the filter clogs and water wont spray high enough.
Heres a test--turn on the dishwasher and wait until you can hear water running then open the door really fast and look at how high the water is spraying--there should be alot of water all over the top rack running down

newbury, the screen should set in the grooves on the bottom. The chopper blade that fits on the shaft should have a small hub that fits over it. If you look on the housing cover (inlet protector) you will see a channel that slides over the end of the chopper blade shaft. This secures the chopper in place. Catriver.
