Question about Sony Handycam DCR-TRV250 Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Capturing video Hi. I can capture video from my Sony DCR-TRV250 to Vegas 8. However, it's grainy. I've: (1) checked the box in Preferences/Capture Analog Device Options box and bumped that to 29.970 (NTSC), (2) unchecked the Preferences/General box enable DV device control, (3) bumped the Output Size to 640x480 in the Sony DV Menu, (4) adjusted the Frame Rate to 30 in the same screen. Does anyone know what i'm missing to still get grainy video? I want to capture and burn to DVD however i'm nervous that the DVD will be grainy as well. Thoughts?

I had to get a Firewire cable to make this cam work with Vista. I was told Firewire is faster (?) and much better video quality because it is made for loads of data. I can't tell any much of difference from USB, but it does work with Firewire. So, basically try a Firewire cable.

I got this model Video Camcorder. I need it ready by wednesday and need some help. it's the Sony Handycam DCR-TRV250 and I need to know how to upload vidoes to my computer. I am using a usb port. How to I...

The USB streaming driver for the Camcorder is not available for Windows Vista OS from Sony at this point. Hence it is not possible to transfer videos using USB interface. You may use i.LINK or A/V interface to transfer videos from the Camcorder to the Computer which is running on Windows Vista Operating System.

Please follow the steps to transfer video to a computer using an i.LINK connection (IEEE 1394).

IMPORTANT: Video capture software and a compatible video capture card must be installed on the computer. Depending on the computer manufacturer, various video capture cards and software (Adobe Premiere, Roxio Video Wave, Microsoft Windows Movie Maker, etc.) may be available or already installed on your computer. If necessary, contact the manufacturer of your computer for further information.

NOTE: Many Sony VAIO computers are bundled with Sony DVgate Motion or DVgate Plus software for video capturing. Some VAIO computers also include Click To DVD software that will allow video capture to the computer hard drive or directly to a DVD.

  1. Connect an i.LINK cable (also known as IEEE 1394) to the i.LINK port on the digital camcorder.

  1. Connect the other end of the i.LINK cable to the computer.

NOTE: The computer i.LINK ports and capture cards may have either 4-pin or 6-pin connections. Sony digital camcorders use i.LINK ports with 4 pins. If your computer only has a 6-pin i.LINK port, then it will be necessary to use a 4-pin to 6-pin i.LINK cable.

  1. Turn on the digital camcorder by moving the POWER switch to the VTR position.
  2. Cue the camcorder tape to the beginning of the video footage.
  3. Turn on the computer.
  4. Start the video capture software on the computer.
  5. Begin playing the recorded video in the camcorder.
  6. Begin importing the video with the capture software.

It should now be possible to copy the video using the video capture software if the computer hardware and software are configured correctly.

You can also use Windows movie maker with i.LINK connection

Using sony dcr-sr36 as a webcam

Unfortunately is not possible directly - Your cam do not support USB streaming... But You may use any cheap video capture device like Pinnacle Studio movie box or similar to connect Your camera via S-video cable because Your camera has an analog output. Only one requirement - the capture card must have an S-video input or simply RCA video input. It's easy - connect video out and audio out of Your cam to the capture device and then connect USB of capture device to Your computer.
Good luck!

How to save videos from sony handycam to my home pc

If I understand the user guide correctly, you can set the capture format in Preferences and have the captured video saved as MPEG1, there may be other options depending on what that version offers. If this is the only software you have to edit video, you must capture it first to have it saved to a folder of your choosing (usually set up in preferences). After that you should be able to use Windows Media Player or Quicktime to play back the file you captured. You can convert the MPEG1 files to another format if you want by using free software such as AVS Video Converter or other software.

USB streaming does not work for Windows Vista. Use the firewire/ilink connection instead.

Playback recording

You can use ImageMixer to capture and save the file as an mpeg movie, which then can be copied onto a CD or DVD. Look for the capture option in the software. Also check the preferences (click on the tool icon in the upper right corner, 2nd from the end) to set (or at least know) where the file is being saved. It's possible it was saved (if you used capture) but you may not realize it.

the still pictures are actually single frame MPEG movies with 7 seconds of audio. You should capture them the same way you get movies off the tape into the PC and just capture the frame.

I have no sound on my sony handycam

Sony got back to me with the answer, so I will post it here for future reference.
If there is no audio when USB streaming with PIXELA ImageMixer version 1.5 software on the Microsoft Windows XP operating system, change the USB capture device setting for sound to USB Audio Device. In the Image Mixer Tool settings, confirm the USB Capture Device settings are set for an available USB Audio Device. This setting is not defaulted to the USB streaming mode.

This would be the icon of an open end wrench in the top right hand corner of the capture environment screen.

Follow this procedure to change the USB capture device setting for sound in the Pixela ImageMixer 1.5 software.

1. In the ImageMixer window, click the USB Device Capture icon.

2. Click the Preferences icon.

3. In the Capturing/Recording Preferences window, in the USB Capture Device Setting section, click the down arrow to select the desired sound device.

4. Click the OK button.

For any request for processing or editing assistance you may visit the PIXELA help file. You may also contact them at the following website:
