Question about Panasonic DMR-EZ47V DVD Recorder/VCR
The 120 minutes that you see on the DVD cover is the amount of space you would get in the default recording bit-rate. You can increase the bit-rate on this unit by selecting the recording mode before you begin recording. The options are:
XP - 1 hour, highest bit-rate, least compression, best picture, larger file-size.
SP - 2 hour, default bit-rate, standard compression, good picture, average file-size.
LP - 4 hour, lower bit-rate but double horizontal resolution of LP mode on other units, higher compression, good picture.
EP - 6 or 8 hours (depending on setup options), low bit-rate, high compression, below average picture, small file size.
Because you cannot do VBR recordings durring dubbing, you will have to either:
-set the record mode to SP and have 50 minutes of left-over space, or
-leave it set to XP mode and cut 10 minutes off of the VHS.

There are double layer DVD's that they make which usually have about 2x the memory. check to see if your DVD recorder supports these types of DVD's. You could also just divide your media on to two sides of a double sided DVD (each side has the mirror look and you can record onto both sides)(still the same disc) or you could record on to multiple DVD's (may be inconvenient but is still an option). Also, you could reduce the recording quality just a bit so that it is not noticable when you watch it but it still uses less space on the disk. I would tell you how to do these things but I have no experience with the individual model that you have.
