Canon Power Shot S2 IS Digital camera does not turn on
My S2 IS does not turn on. I changed the batteries and cleaned battery contacts. The batteries are put the right way. It does not turn on. Its dead. What else do I do?? Do you suggest some good camera repair stores. I guess Ritz charges about $180.00 to fix it.

Sometimes, the lower contacts get bent downward after years of use, causing the batteries to ride low in the compartment, and thus making poor contact when the battery door is closed. Try lifting/bending these interior battery contacts upward, so that the batteries ride higher when inserted.
The problem that you described is frequently battery related. Make
sure that your batteries are the correct type for the camera, and that
they are fresh/fully charged. If the batteries are OK, the problem is
frequently due to corrosion on the contacts inside the camera. Remove
the batteries and wipe the inside contacts firmly with a dry cloth
(heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or
sand paper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery
compartment during cleaning, wipe the ends of the batteries, and
replace them in the camera. This cleaning process works about 90% of
the time, and I hope that it cures your problem.
Use a Q-tip with alcohol to clean all the batter contacts (battery cover and inside the battery compartment), and a small hook into the compartment to pull up the contacts a little bit up. The idea is to make the batteries connect properly. Use NiMh rechargeable batteries or Alkaline batteries, don’t use other Dry batteries, which are not designed for digital camera.
