Question about Mitsubishi WS-65819 TV

1 Answer

3 colors on TV

I've had my 65" TV for apx. 6yrs. I currently have 3 colors showing and a arch like effect at the bottom and top of screen. I've been doing some research on the possible fix. It appears to be the convergence amplifier or IC pins needing to be resoldered. If this is true where are these 2 items located?

Display is multi-clored and unfocused at perimeter of the screen. After the set warms up the picture is beautiful as always. Returns to problem when turned of and powered up.

It sounds like we had the same problem. Our TV is the same make and model also about 6 yrs. I went to the Mitsubishi website and was able to find a service company in my area. It turned out to be the convergence amplifier. In the end we replaced a pair of convergence amplifiers and he also soldered the pins. (in home) The cost of the repair was $375, much less than purchasing a new TV. I realize I was no help in locating the amplifiers for you but maybe if you call a service company in your area they can help you with their location inside. Hope I was of some help.

The set has a bowed appearance and the 3 colors have seperated. I imagine the bulb(s) are going as it's a old set.

The arching of color can be adjusted on the color gun by slighty turning the screw on the gun Blue, Green, Red. This fixes the arching and or fade-blinking in and out of color. The gun on my 65" sony is inthe front of the set. Removing the front panel grants me access to this. You may have to access it from the back on your model. Looks like a small box with 3 screws ont he front. Hope that helps...

Screen is bowed on top and bottom.

Projection sets have two very common problems outlined below.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. The TV can also shut down when the convergence starts to fail.

Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith, RCA and others.

You can more info and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from TV Repair Kits using the link at the end of this article.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped or bowed
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

You have a convergence problem, all this sets show this problem sooner or later, you have 2 or 3 amps for the red, green blue colors and this amps go bad and need to be replaced then you have to do a convergence aligment from the service mode and not form the customer controls,a qualified tech should be able to correct the problem since is a common one.

Bowlike effect convergence all screwwed up

I suspect you originally had an intermittent solder connection on the convergence circuit board. This may have damaged the convergence IC's on that board by now if repairing those connections doesn't fix the set.
