My Sungale also sz "wrong disc" every time. I tried the solutions above, to no avail. Any other suggestions? I do know the DVD's work.

I found these posts. I have only been able to get the fix to work once, though. :(
I found a "hack' to make mine work :)
1. Open the tray
2. Press "Setup": Menu Screen should appear
3. Press "8-8-8-8" ( if you changed the password, you might have to change it back to 8888 ) The region number should appear on upper right corner. No other notation. Typically just the numeral "1".
4. Use the right (->) or left (<-) arrow keys to change the region to 255 for all regions.
5. Use the up or down button to go to 3001 and 4000. I had to change 4000 to 4001 to get mine to work,
6. Press "Setup" to exit.
It was a big relief to find this hack, because I misplaced my receipt and thought I was simply out of $30.
Region code hack posted by jeff777, December 15 2004:
This works.

1) With remote control, power the DVD player on.
2) With remote control, open the DVD tray.
3) With remote control, select SETUP.
4) With remote control, press the VOLUME UP button, then the VOLUME DOWN button, then the VOLUME UP button again and finally the VOLUME DOWN button again.
5) You should now see a number 2 on your screen. If you do not, this hack will not work on your system or you have done something wrong. If you do see the number 2 on the screen, proceed to 6).
6) Use the LEFT and/or RIGHT arrow to select the number 255.
7) When you see the number 255, press the SELECT button.
8) Press the SETUP button again to end procedure.

Newer Sungale 2026 players are a bit easier to set up:

1. Open the tray

2. Press "Setup": Menu Screen should appear

3. Press "8-8-8-8" Region number should appear on upper right corner. No other notation. Typically just the numeral "1".

4. Use the right (->) or left (<-) arrow keys to change the region. "255" all region.

5. Press "Setup" to exit.

Tested Region 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 PAL and NTSC disks. They all work just fine on an older US NTSC TV. It's a little bigger than the Cyberhome, but works much better. There is no jerking at chapters with either factory or homemade discs. Plays VCDs just fine.

Sniff around the internet. This machine is availabe as of 5-18-05 for about $29 plus shipping ($11). Arrived in two days.

Other hack posted by Hurricane, January 23 2006:
If you do the Setup>8888 thing you get a region code 1-6 & 255.
Well if you press up and down on the directional pad you also get 3001 and 4001 these can be changed to 3000 and 4000, I know that one of them is a Macrovision on/off flag but I don't know what the other is.

I did all of the following steps except that I have to press setup twice at the end for it to exit setup. The first one only makes the 3000 or 4000 number disappear. The second setup gets it out of setup mode.
    Using the remote: power on

    1. Open the tray

    2. Press "Setup": Menu Screen should appear

    3. Press "8-8-8-8" Region number should appear on upper right corner. No other notation. Typically just the numeral "1".

    4. Use the right (->) or left (<-) arrow keys to change the region. "255" all region.

    5. Use the right (->) or left (<-) arrow keys to change from 4001 to 4000 and 3001 to 3000
    5. Press "Setup" the number 3000 disappears
6 Press "setup"again out of "setup" mode
    7. put in a disk and close the tray.
It still displays "Wrong Disk" I did go back to check and the numbers 255, 3000, 4000 were there.
My DVD2026 is brand new from a couple of years ago. Please helps

Wrong disc

Hello
Try an other disc. Soem discs may not recogonized. It will depend on its recording. Put an MP3 and Audio CD disc in it and see whether they are regognaized by the player. If it does not reads any disc, there are two possiblilities for this fault. The first one is of dirty or dusty laser pickup lens, and the other is with a faulty laser pick up uit itself.
Just put a cleaning disc in it, and play it for at least three times. Check it after. If this does not hel you, beofre replacing the laser pickup unit, just replace the strip wire that goes from this laser pickup unit to the main board. It is a flat thin cable, can be bought from most of the electronic spare part selling shops at your town.
Even repacing the strip wire, and cleaning does not help you, you have to repalce the laser pickup unit. OK.

Portable dvd player when you put disc in machine it comes up with wrong disc display on screen is it the settings

It would more likely be the types of discs used. They are either of a region code not compatible with the player, contain foreign/unknown data, or they are unsupported formats. For example, if the player supports DVD-R playback, and you put a DVD-RW in, the player will generate 'wrong disc' message if the player cannot recognise the disc or the contents on it.

The disc formats/types that can be played should be outlined either on the unit itself or in the instruction manual (if you still have it). If the player shows that message even with genuine shop-bought DVDs then there is a defect within the unit, workshop attention may be required to fix it, but it could be costly.

'WRONG DISC' usually means the disc inserted is of a different region code to the player, or the wrong format (DVD-RW instead of DVD-R as exampled above). Try using different discs before going any further.

My dvd player displays 'wrong disc' and will not play. what's wrong?

The reader in the player might be dying. Try another disc. If that works, the disc is in a format the dvd player cannot read (i.e. BluRay, DVD+R, etc.)
