I just replaced the blue projector. How do I set

Coarse adjustment is done by adjusting the convergence coil on the neck of the tube, also the skew is adjusted there. The user menu should have a convergence adjustment option.

Unable to move the blue and red convergence lines to the green

If red or blue will not move this model uses two of the STK-392-110 CONVERGENCE CHIPS.

Both chips along with any of the 8 or 10 protect resistors around need to be replaced--the parts are cheap--you can buy a pair of the chips on Ebay for less than 14 dollars plus shipping and the resistors are easy to test and or replace if gone.

Total parts cost should be under 30 dollars.

The hard part of this repair in your set is getting at the chips to replace them---most of these sets you have to unbolt the entire chassis--you will have to mark and unplug several plugs---so that you end up with the bottom of all the boards facing the back of the set.

Both chips are black in color--2 1/2 inches wide and 1 1/2 inches tall with 18 pins each--you need to be able to get at them, un-solder them and replace them.

They usually are near the middle of the boards and are on two large metal heat sinks with fins side by side and will have the STK-392-110 PRINTED ON THEM IN WHITE.

The resistors are dark gray in color an are usually 1.8 ohm in value---they can be tested with a meter---like checking a fuse--one with no reading is open. They usually do not burn or discolor in this set.

Most of the time just the chips need to be replaced and then the set adjusted--you will get ok results in the customer menu and if you get it working I can give you instructions to get into the TECH menu for fine adjustment all over the screen.

I am willing to step you through this repair if you or someone you know can do it---I will tell you all the things you need and give general instructions depending on where you find the chips are located in your set.

This repair usually takes me less than 1 hour, but I have done hundreds of them---someone else here with a similar set and problem I helped recently was able to do this repair--it took him over 2 or 3 hours since it was his first time.

If you cannot do the repair let me know and I will give you options.

Blue light (RGB) will not converge (Toshiba 50H72)

Look around the area of the STKs and you should see some low valued resistors. One lead of which will be attached to the STKs. One or more of these is open. Replace it/them and you should be fine. These are current limiting resistors (effectively fuses) for the power to the STKs. One of them is not getting power.

I have a toshiba model 50h72 double vishion

Projection sets have two very common problems.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Toshiba 50h72 picture and sounds takes 20 min to warm up

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.
