The Rainbow must have water as this is the only way it filters the dirt before the motor. If you don't use water, all the dirt will go through the motor and could create serious issues. We have a cleaning service that will clean your Rainbow inside and out making it like new. Call us for details.

Yes, you have put too much water in it. Simply drain a little bit out.

You should always put a new hepa filter in any E and E2 series Rainbow vacuum, when it taken to a new home, or every two Years, or so, or if your Doughter makes it get funky smelling. :-) It will smell like the home that it was in, or how ever it smells, until you do.

You can also use fragrances, and deodorizer air freshener in your vacuum, which not only eliminates odors, it add fresh aromas to your air that you breath, in your home, also.

Replace the hepa filter first thing.

The water separator is the thing that spins in the center of the motor where your water basin attaches to it. It looks like a cone shaped fan looking thing. It should be cleaned after every use.

Use your Rainbow separator cleaning brush, or a tooth brush, if you do not have the Rainbow one. They are just like tooth brushes.


Never store your Rainbow canister on your water basin, with or without water in it. It can and will ruin your vacuum in dew time.

Water only goes into the cub in the handle. The dirty water gets put into the bowl on the canister part.

You fill the chamber only to the top of the peg in the center don't you? Any debris foreign debris or object stuck to the seal on the motorbase? Have you cleaned the slinger? (that ivory-colored thing with the little slots in it)

Reasons for that to happen:
a) You have tilted the vac while vacuuming
b) Used the Rainbow without separator (basket like thing on the bottom of the motor)
c) Overfilled the rainbow tank with water (may have happened when shampooing with AquaMate)

Clean and install back the separator, remove HEPA, Set the Rainbow on empty water pan (with HEPA removed) turn it on for a while so everything will dry. Install new HEPA.

You will have to get a new HEPA filter (you can find them HERE)

wow, that motor is one of the most complex in a vacuum and to repair it can be very difficult, if you want to replace it you can but it will be very expensive just for the part. the screws are hidden under that big rubber gasket on the bottom of the machine where the water tank sits. you should also replace that gasket two because it will get ruined when you tear it off.
