I had the exact same problem with my Magnavox TV. The screen would shrink then expand. After thrity minutes it would correct itself. Then one day it just broke - no sound and no video. I searched these forums but did not find clear instructions or kits on how to fix it. I gave up and called in a repair tech. He fixed my TV in less than 30 minutes.

To help others I documented the fix and created a repair kit and step by step quide on how to fix the problem. You can find it here. http://www.magnavoxhelp.com

Hi.
the picture size changing on startup is normal so dont be to worried about that mine does it all the tome.

coolant changes only fix dull and blury pictures assuming that your mechanical focus and convergance is correct.

i would try using the convergance function to see if that is your problem.. otherwise it would be easier to take it to a tech as once you start adjusting all the settings with the back of the tv off it can get a little tricky..

i took 5 hrs to converge and old sony crt once...
hope that helps

Magnavox rear proj (model# 8p6044 c102) pic is cloudy/green tint

Yes the coolant gets crud buildup in it over time which will cause the color and clarity to get very poor with obects that will glow around certain bright ojects. You can get the Phillips CRT coolant replacement kit from www.tvrepairworld.com which has the CRT coolant for all 3 CRTs and also includes the Cd with instructions on how to do the replacement.

Philips Magnavox 51MP392H Rear Projection Television

are you getting sound, was it moved laterly, did you just get it from somone, did it get wet, does it make clicking noises, was the picture color/ convergence blurring before this, were the colors slowly seperating such as red/blue/green?, did the picture bow on top and bottom or sides prior to tihs, was there anything note worthy prior to the blank screen.

generally its IC convergence problem with the larger philips projection TV's however I need more info on your TV, also size make model # anything you can provide gets us a more narrowed solution.

hope this helps....
