On the tape adapter you have to switch the side the wire comes from. The zx2 reads the cassette in the opposite direction than how the tape is normally played. Had the same problem and ended up breaking my radio try to force the tape to stay in :(

Hi Athletic, The problem would seem to be that the gears inside the tape player have gone out of syncronisation. The player needs to be removed and then opened to re sync the gears (which may be broken). It would be better to have someone repair it, who knows what they're doing. I know the problem but I'm not very competent to be able to advise you on the repair procedure! Regards Johngee10

Some tape players have a very tiny hole near the opening. You can push a paper clip int this hole for about 2 inches...the tape should pop out.
Do this with power off.

most likely is the radio itself- typical ford radio... best bet is look in a junkyard for a new radio- there are no fusible links- there usually is just one 10amp fuse in the inside fusebox. but if the cd& tape players work it is in the stereo itself. hope this helps and good luck

Yes, All the years of the ZX2 utilize the same engine. 1998-2003 are all the same except for ECU programing and the MAF wiring. You should not have a problem.
