Do I have proper memory bought to install?

Being an inexperienced hardware installer, but I am finding it easier to just learn to install hardware myself, with living in remote area. .. I ordered 1GB memory for my Compaq Presario SR1030NX PC, it came without instructions!! I wished I had came across this site to guide me some. It looks very interesting, I am pleased to see you all help others.
After scanning my computer, it tells me that I have the manufactory setting of 512MB. I dont know if I need to pull out that 512MB memory first before installing the 1GB. No instructions came with the part when it arrived here!!! How do I know the parts department sent me the right item?
Appreciate any help..thank you.. Marian

Somewhere on the case that the memory came in it should say 1GB DDR333 PC2700, 184p DIMM, 2.5v, Sync, CL=2.5, or some of that anyway.

How to know it will work? Give it a try! Open up the system and look for the socket where the 512 memory stick is located. There is an empty one next to it where you'll plug in your new memory. There is only one right way to plug it in. Your memory stick has a small notch in the bottom near the middle. That's to help you plug the memory in the right way. Carefully, place the memory stick into the socket, then push down on one side and then the next. The "holders" on either end will pop up and secure the memory for you.

The Compaq Presario SR1030NX takes the PC2700 DDR SDRAM DIMMs Memory Type, and comes installed with 512 MB (removable) of Memory. You can upgrade your Compaq Presario SR1030NX to up to a maximum of 2.0 GB Memory, the system has 2 sockets to install Memory, already with 512 MB (removable) standard Memory installed. For best system performance use the maximum amount of allowed Memory per slot for your system.

It only beeps nothing works but the inside light

Do the process of elimination to troubleshoot your problem:
1. Locate your memory modules and re-seat them or make sure they're pushed down properly to the memory bank. If you have a couple of the memory module, try it with only one memory installed and so on.
2. If you have an add-on video card, remove it, use the on-board video.
3. All other add-on hardware installed, must be removed and once you find the culprit, you can put them back on again.

Hope this helps!

Emachines T5082 Adding 512Mb ram. Getting slot 0 installed slot 1 not installed.

Try swapping the memory in the two slots. It sounds like either one of the memory chips is bad or one of the memory slots is bad.
If you find that one of the slots is bad, then you might try just putting a 1GB Chip in the slot that works.

I have a via drivers & utilities already out of date, so now i have a problem with setup the device of my P C with windows 7. And now i want make a copy latest version of via drivers & utilities...

If you search the serial numbers and model numbers of the hardware you are trying to install, you should be able to find the updated drivers without a problem. Try a search at the manufacturer's home page first -- they will probably have the software upgrades available for free on their site (they want you to be able to use your hardware, even if you upgrade your OS beyond that which is covered by your original drivers -- it makes good business sense to update these for free for you. If you cannot find the new drivers on their site there are still a few options ...
1. You can try the Microsoft sire. Generally they do not store the drivers for every piece of hardware that could have issues with their new OS ... but a lot of times they have links to the places that DO keep the drivers.
2. There are several programs that will automatically search the web for your updated drivers. Run a search on Google and you can find one easily enough.
3. Use this link : ... It connects to a page with an alphabetical listing of company web sites with Windows 7 upgrades for their products.
There is a possibility that your hardware is not, and will not be supported by Windows 7 (I have some really old video hardware that is no longer supported by Windows in any form). If this is the case, you can buy new hardware to match your OS, or you can change your OS to match your hardware. For the system I use that has the OLD (7+ years old) video hardware, I changed my OS to Puppy Linux. This is an operating system that is designed mostly for older hardware. This is the more complex solution, since you will have to learn a whole new operating system, but in the end it is worth the effort (Linux is known to have less virus problems, and is "open-source" which means that you can change anything and everything that is not perfectly set up for you once you learn the system). There are LOTS of options for linux operating systems ... and you would have to choose which works the best for you ... but they all have small programs that allow them to work Windows hardware, but it sometimes takes a lot of effort to get everything set up properly. If you have a linux-savvy friend, life could be easier ... if not, and you are not GREAT with computers, this might not be the option for you.

I have added 256MB memory to my Sony PCV-RX470DS desktop but it still only shows 256MB that was already installed. Do I need to change anything in BIOS or make any kind of hardware change via jumpers or...

You may need to re-seat the memory module.

Shutdown your PC, remove the newly added memory module. and re-plug it back in, this time when you install it make sure you hear a click noise when installing it to ensure its properly installed.

I doubt you need to update the BIOS to support more memory.

Otherwise you may have a dud memory module.

When installing/removing memory ensure you are properly earthed so that you don't zap and kill the memory.

Blue screen error acer desk top

hi friend the blue screen comes when there is a 1:hardware problem
2:virus problem
3:Installation Disk is corrupted
4:RAM problem

First, check your CD and clean or replace it as necessary. Your next step should be to test your system memory for errors with a diagnostic program.
To do this obtain the Windows Memory Diagnostic or Memtest memory diagnostic programs on floppy or CD we mentioned earlier, and use it to boot your system and test the memory. If either of these programs shows any errors in your memory, you have likely found the source of your troubles.
Chances are you will need to purchase new memory. For more information on faulty memory and memory diagnostics, see PCstats Guide to diagnosing bad memory .
