Removing a screen protector from a Hitachi 50UX58B Projection color TV

I have a Hitachi 50UX58B Projection color TV and it has a screen protector. A bug got between the screen and the screen protector and I thought it was on the outside. I squished it and now there is a smashed bug between the protector and the screen. Any ideas on how to remove the screen protector?

There is a black plastic strip that fits into the groove at the top of the frame holding the protector and front screen. Pull that down and out (you might need to pry a little to get it started). The attached picture shows the strip partially pulled out at the right edge (photo depicts the top right of a 58K - with a wood cabinet).Removing a screen protector from a Hitachi 50UX58B - ea84b4b.jpg
Once this strip is removed, you should be able to see a gap (~2mm) between the top of the protector and the frame. Pull the middle of the protector toward you (you may need to hook it with something like a chrochet hook to get it out to where you can get a finger on it). Pull out one side of the protector, then work it loose fromt he bottom. (If it is stubborn, you may have to loosen the bottom frame. Take of the speaker grill, then unscrew the screw on the bottom of the surround for the control panel and pop the surround out. Then there are 3 screws that hold the cabinet frame {might me different for the 58B} and beneath that, 3 screws that hold the bottom of the inside frame. Once those are removed, you should be able to flex the inside frame enough to loosen the protector.)

Installation is the reverse. There are two grooves (at least on my set), and the protector goes in the rear groove(!) (same as the screen itself - first time I tried to put it in the unused groove closer to the front of the screen, and that iddn't work). The black plastic retainer strip goes in the front groove.

Removing a screen protector on a Hitachi 57F10A

You might try Hitachi for the service manual with full breakdown.

Basically the entire front screen unit comes off from the front in one piece, then inner two screens come out--carefully! and then frame needs to be partly pulled apart to get out screen from rear as it is in a slot all around the frame.

Hitachi tv model 50ux58b starts to come then goes off

If you have Hitachi model number 50UX58B, 60UX58B, 50UX58K, 60UX58K, 50SBX78B or 60SBX78B and you have the following symptoms you may want to grab a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kit that includes the parts and instructions to fix these models. This is a fairly common problem with the above model numbers. It is typically caused by a blown capacitor and pico fuse. Again, you can get a kit from the above address.

Here are the symptoms...

Primary Symptom: No Audio or Video. Power light will come on briefly then shut off.
Other Possible Symptoms : The green LEDs on the circuit board light up for a few seconds then turn off.

Hope this helps,

Red color on screen is warped on my LCD projector TV.

Normally the oily fluid coming from a picture tube, is the coolant from the tube. It's very combustible and have been known to start a fire. You have two problems in this set. A leaking blue picture tube. A convergence circuit that needs repaired. Call a local servicer and see if they will give you an estimate over the phone. It's time to start looking for a new digital set. Good Luck.
