Hi XX,

To my knowledge, if you are installing the Maxtor DiamondMax® 31536H2 as a slave, there are no jumpers required as shown below

Additional information may be found here.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

WINDOWS SET UP FAILS TO LOCATE THE HARD DRIVE ACESS SEEMS TO BE DENIED

Mabee the hard drive has failed . try entering bios and see if the hard drive is recognised .If not try turning the computer off unplug it then reconnect the drive data cable and power cable
then re- start the computer and see if it is recognised. some models of older hard drives needed a driver installed during set up -- you usually have to put the driver on a floppy disc and hit the f6 button when prompted by windows set up to install third party drivers . I hope this helps

There should be jumpers on the back of both hard drives. You need to set the primary hard drive jumper to MASTER and the secondary hard drive jumper to SLAVE. Here is a picture of the jumper settings.

Im trying to install my harddrive but im not sure about the jumper settings

If you are installing the hard drive in the desktop computer, and this is going to be the boot disk then the jumper should be set to MA (Master) and the drive should be connected to the end of the data cable and the other end of the cable should be plugged into the 1st disk controller.
If the BIOS does not detect this as the primary hard drive then the jumper will need to be set to CS (cable select). Check the BIOS again to see if it detects the hard drive.

If you are installing the hard drive as a 2nd hard drive and you are putting it on the same cable as the 1st hard drive then the jumper needs to be set as SL (Slave).
If you are installing the hard drive on the 2nd disk controller and there is no other devices on this data cable then it does not matter if it is set to MA or SL. but if the is a CD/DVD drive on the cable too then the jumpers must be set differently on each device.

2 hard drives and 2 OS in one tower. win98 and winXP pro How can I configure so I have a boot option at startup?

Install first the Win98 OS to your Drive C: and then Install the WinXP to your drive D:
after you restart the system it will prompt you to boot either on Win98 or XP. You can also do this in one hdd only. all you have to do is to repartition the hdd

How do i install a used hard drive into an eMachines T2341? The hard drive still has information on it. do i set it as master, slave, or cable select? hard drive is an IBM 10.1 gb

There are two possible solutions depending on how your desktop is setup.
#1 install the 2nd hard drive and put jumper to CABLE SELECT. When you start the computer it should now appear in the bios as a SLAVE or 2nd hard drive. If not go to #2 below
#2 Turn system off again and change jumper on 2nd hard drive to SLAVE.
Now when your computer restarts it will appear in your bios correctly as the 2nd drive/SLAVE.
Do not make it "MASTER" or you will be trying to boot up to this drive and it may not work as you planned.

FYI: "Cable Select" means the hard drive determines which one is Master and which one is Slave by where it is on the data cable.

Good Luck

I want to get my files from my barracuda 7200.10 hard disk by running a windows 98 os from a hard disk from another pc. ive already run the win98 os but i dont think i set the my .10 to slave so i dont see...

Just remove the jumper of your hard disk to set it it to slave as you will see on the instruction pasted on your disk. If your disk is formatted NTFS, win98 will not be able to read your files use a machine with winxp operating system.
