Question about Digital Cameras

2 Answers

When I turn the camera( Nikon coolplex L1 ) a notice comes up that says "this card cannot be used" This is the same card I've been using that has worked well until now. My camera is just over 2 years old. I put another card in and it comes up with the same message.

I have the EXACT same problem and my camera is too, just over two years old. What did you do to fix it?

That happened to my camera, too. Go to the store and ask someone about it--otherwise I have no idea

i had tried use some other SD card and i just invested one new SD card . all still the same.
dunno this is because of the nikon "manufacturer set a software lifespan"

Hello,
The DCIM folder should not be hidden, but if it is, you can show hidden and system files if you go into the control panel and select folder options. Click on "Show hidden and system files.

Use the memory card on your PC card reader and check the properties, if the card can be formatted then do so after removing all the files/pictures.
Now try this on the camera, if another card works well with the camera the card is faulty , if not there are issues with the interface within the camera and must be probed .

I bought a new computer and I can not find my picture perfect disk for my Coolplex L11

Nikon retired PicturePerfect years ago, replaced by ViewNX and Nikon Transfer. You can download the current versions of all (free) Nikon software from
http://support.nikontech.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13948

You might want to consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

hi there, i`ve once experienced the same problem as yours,
have you tried to reset all the setting in the camera?
you can find the switch near the USB port, then simply push it using pen or screwdriver

after doing that, try to reformat your memory card using camera option

i hope this post will help, thanks

How about listing the cameras that the SDHC card either will or will not work with. Will my Nikon Coolpix L- 4 a candidate?

The list of cameras that can use SDHC cards would be in the thousands....not very practical. Anyway, unfortunately your camera cannot use them.

Nikkon coolpix L1 After downloading memory card .. then putting back into camera. Reading says "cannot read memory card." Checked card out at store verified that it is good. Why does it not work in my...

A couple things you might try.. remove the card carefully and check the position of the "lock" tab. Make sure it is fully in the unlocked position - not locked or a point between the two positions. Reinsert and try again.

It sounds lie you're using a card reader to download the pictures - try formatting the card while in the card reader via computer. The card should be completely empty when the format is complete. You can even try copying files to and from the card to make sure its ok and format again. When complete, try again in camera.

If the problem persists, check to make sure the card is on Nikon approved memory card list for use with the Coolpix L1 (provided below):

The following is a list of approved memory cards for the Coolpix L1 digital still camera. These cards have been tested and approved for use with the Coolpix L1.
The L1 uses SD (Secure Digital) memory. Sandisk:
  • 64MB, 128 MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1 GB, 256MB*, 512MB*, 1GB*
Toshiba:
  • 64MB, 128MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1 GB, 128 MB*, 256MB*, 512MB
Panasonic:
  • 64MB, 128MB, 256MB, 1 GB, 256MB*, 512MB*, 1GB*
* - Cards rated for 10MB/s (high speed) Other cards have not been tested. For more details on the memory cards listed above, please contact the manufacturer.

The list came direct from Nikon Support. Other cards may work, but only those on the list are approved. Successful use of other cards can not be guaranteed.

I hope this helps!

How to use digital camera as a web camera

No. The Nikon was designed as a camera, storing images (and videos) to a memroy card. It was not designed as a webcam, streaming images live to another device.

Try formatting the card in the camera, not the computer.

SDHC memory card

The L1 is an old camera, before the SDHC standard. There is no forward compatibility (SD devices can't use SDHC cards), only backward (SDHC devices can use SD cards).

The latest version of the firmware is available at http://support.nikontech.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13783

That still won't let you use SDHC cards.
