As far as i know, anything goes with usb port, it must have drivers on hand, you gotta install the drivers first, and then plug the port. The drivers will inform you when you should plug the port.

Good luck.

Its easy to use:

Step 1). Just on your lap.
After complete boot

Step2). Insert your floppy connector one end to your USB port of Lap.

Step 3). Double Click on My Computer Icon.
The my Computer will be open.
and if every thing is ok, a floppy disk drive icon [A: or B:] will be shown in the window.

Step 4). Insert your floppy disk into the Drive.
wait till the floppy disk drive light goes off.

Step 5). Double click on floppy disk drive icon [A: or B:].

and the content of the floppy will be open.

have any question... ask me

Thanks

I have a gateway GT5692 and I dont know where to install a floppy disk or if I can install one.

I found a similar gateway that says the motherboard supports a floppy drive but, it did not ship with it therefore, you will need the cable that goes from the floppy to the motherboard. Look for a smaller version of an EIDE hard disk drive plug on the motherboard you should see the initials FDD near the plug using a light and magnifying glass if it has it just plug the cable in and connect the floppy to the other end also you will have to find the small power wire that the floppy uses coming from the power supply....it may be easier to just get an external USB Floppy Disk Drive as they are rarely used anymore.

Where is the insert for the floppy disc

The floppy disk may or may not be installed in section 5. They started eliminating floppy drives some years ago, when USB flash started to become popular.

FlexBay drive panel
Can contain an optional floppy drive or optional Media Card Reader. For information on using the Media Card Reader, see Using a Media Card Reader (Optional).

If your question was more basic than this, and you have a floppy drive, then you just insert the floppy into the slot. It doesn't open. Look for the arrow on the floppy disk, if it doesn't go in one way, turn it over.

Need a new one

Any brand name floppy drive will work just fine. Does not have to be the exact same model or model number.

You can pick these up at either any computer distributor online (www.newegg.com , www.tigerdirect.com , other ones out there) or almost at any place that sells computer related devices (walmart, best buy, frys, local small computer shop). The plugs/pins are all the same in the back of the floppy, so it is completely interchangeable.

Card reader

This type of card reader is powered from the usb table so you will need to look for a usb header on the motherboard to plug it into. The header will be a 10 pin header ( but pin 10 is missing! ) so it is top row 4 pins, bottom row 5 pins, from left the connections are red, white, green, black, & no connection.
The power plug used to connect the card reader is the power plug normally used to power the floppy disk drive. come back to if problems still persist ? compdoctor2005@btinternet.com

Can you put a memorex 2 hd 3.5 in your laptop to scan pictures? if so how do you remove the disk from the plastic cover?

You can't remove this cover, if you do it will be damaged permanently. If your laptop have a floppy drive then you can do , if not there is a few ways around it, put the floppy in your desktop floppy drive and copy pictures to my pictures folder and then send them to your email address or place them as documents and do an attachment, but you must be able to insert this 2hd in a (floppy drive) or you can copy this disk to a memory stick!

Imstalling internal card reader

Well, installing an internal card reader without a spot on the motherboard, is a little hard to do. I would suggest buying an external card reader. They are a little cheaper, and a lot easier to setup and use, since they just connect to a USB port which all computers have.
