Frigidaire frs26h5asb5

Hi Gary,

If your evaporator is not completely frosting over (top to bottom) this normally means the unit doesn't have a proper charge or the compressor can't pump all the freon as it needs to. I would check the charge, this should read "0", if less not enough, if higher than the compressor is failing. I hope this helps.

Why Bottom freezer drawer wont stay open

Freezer and refrigerator doors aren't usually supposed to stay open. The units are usually installed so that they're slightly tilted to the back to make sure gravity will close the doors if you forget to. If you are SURE - I mean really SURE - that you want your freezer to stay open you should check the drawer rails to see if they're adjustable; if they are, trying raising the back of the rails (or lowering the front). If the rails are not adjustable, try adjusting the front feet of your fridge so that the front of the whole unit is just a tiny bit lower than it is now. Don't lower it too much! If you do, the doors won't stay closed; they'll leak cold air and you'll lose food.

Why won't the unit stay on?

Fridge FAN CONTINUALLY STAYS ON OR SHUTS OFF WHEN DOOR IS OPENED:

NORMALLY WHEN THIS HAPPENS U EITHER HAVE A DOOR CONTINUALLY OPEN ISSUE OR A BAD DOOR SEAL LETTING AIR IN AND CAUSING FAN TO OVERWORK ITSELF. ANOTHER CAUSE CAN BE DIRTY COILS AND CONDENSER AND LASTLY NOT TO COMMON IS A SHORT IN THE FAN SYSTEM ITSELF. A MORE PROBABLE CAUSE COULD BE BAD THERMISTORS OR EVEN COLD CONTROL THERMOSTAT ( WHEN THE THERMISTORS OR THERMOSTAT DO NOT GET/GIVE A PROPER READING, THEY CAN CAUSE THE FAN TO CONTINUE TO OPERATE AS THEY FAIL TO RECOGNIZE OR REGULATE THE PROPER TEMPERATURE.

What causes the coils behind the panel in the freezer to freeze up and stop the freezer fan? top half of freezer defrosts, lower half stays cold.Fridge is side by side and freezer fan keeps turning of

When the evaporator fan motor stops running the top half of the back wall of the freezer will frost over and the the only reason the lower portion stays cool is because cold air falls. More than likely you have a a dc motor fan and its bad, but be wary with ge, the main control board could also go bad causing the fan not to run.

The lower refrigerator section is not cold anymore

check to see if the fan motor in the freezer is running. all the cooling happens in the freezer and the fan is what circulates the cold air down to the refrigerator.. if the fan isnt running ,it could be a bad connection or a bad fan motor..on some models the doors need to be closed before the fan comes on so just push on the door switch to check .if the fan is running then a defrost problem may be the problem.. you mentioned you defrosted the unit. if the auto defrost isnt working, you would notice frost on the back of the freezer. there would be a lot more frost behind that panel that could block the airflow down to the frig. you would have to remove rear panel of freezer to clear all the frost and restore proper airflow..remember to unplug the frig before doing any work..

Freezer does not get as cold as the setting made but refrigerator

If the unit is working correctly, it could be that you are trying to adjust the freezer with the wrong knob. The fresh food section is cooled by forced air from the freezer and can get about as cold as the freezer if not adjusted correctly. The thermostat its self controls only the temp in the freezer. Some times telling which is which is confusing. Here is the best way to tell the difference.
The knob that will turn the unit off is the thermostat. The other one controls how much air can be forced into the fresh food section. The thermostat should be adjusted to where the freezer stays around -10 degrees. The other knob should be set so the the fresh food section stays between 35 and 38 degrees. If this does not help or if you find that there is indeed a problem with you unit, please get back with me and I'll be glade to walk you through diagnosing the problem.
Please post a rating if solution is helpful. Thanks

Freezer is ok, but lower section does not stay cold even at max

I think it's a compressor problem, must be compressor air is low .

I havs a side by side and the top won't stay cold or freeze.

Cold air being heavier than warmer air will settle to the lower levels. Check for fan motor operation inside the freezer section. If the fan is not operating you meed service. Also check for frost on the back wall of the freezer section. If the fan motor does not circulate the air frost will form on the back wall, also if the defrost system is not functioning.
