Sound still works, you can tell that the game is loading, but my screen is either completely blank or has rainbow vertical lines.
I hear I need to reflash the bios, but don't know where to go/how to do that myself.

My gba sp keeps freezing the game

First solution is to clean the contacts of your GBA SP, there might be some dusts on the cartridge slot pins, these dusts reduces performance.

If the first solution doesn't work, make sure that the pins is aligned, if you see some that is bent, then you need to reorient it.

If first and second solution still doesn't work, then you need to replace your cartridge slot.

My GBA SP was left out in the rain, and wont work

Yes, but internal composants or the screen could have been messed up. I wonder how your SP is still alive after that...

GBA SP backlight off.

The SP has a small circular button near the display when the clamshell is opened. That controls the power to the backlight. Have you tried pressing that?

Will not play SP games

Did you clean the contacts on the game as well as the system? You may also try setting the GBA back to it's factory settings by turning it on and holding down L,R,A,B and Start
