Ok..well..the thermal issues are clear here..that is why this will have a certain 'edge' to troubleshooting the issue.

what usually 'fail's soft, is a digital device(chip, etc) somewhere on the board..these are the hardest to find ...resistors, capacitors, etc...component level troubleshooting is quite intense..

otoh, board level swap out is usual..so, what do you have available to you for tools and technology?

You probably need a new lamp. They cost around $30 to $40 online with a google search.

well..the control board has this sort of issue. sometimes, if you turn if off long enough to reset itself, this may clear..otherwise, it's a replacement of a non inexpensive component..

what's your technical ability like?

Diagram for cooling fans that controls the lamp on a Hitachi TV

I have not seen this model Hitachi but I have never seen one with 2 fans for the lamp---in all cases there is usually only one-

Hitachi only offers service manuals online and only to authorized repair shops with a user name and password. If two fans ARE involved it is unlikely both would be bad---flying by the seat of our pants I would suggest if possible to check the voltage at the fans---or even spin them to see if they will suddenly work---dirt can cause a fan to slow or stop and the set would either shut down or issue some kind of "fan failure" or temperature warning.

I am willing to help as much as possible and I understand the desire for a diagram but that is unlikely.

Let me know if I can assist or such in any way---I do this here for free but am here to help people.

I have sound but only a green picture with various instructions on my hitachi 55VF820

Logically speaking, try not to use cable that aint appropriate for that device. If you want to get a better result for what you want to achieve try to use the recommended ones (cables). That projection TV need an specified accessories, which is that special cable. If you want to modify its connection try to buy an adapter for that certain cable.
Hope I can help with you with what I said.

A dlp that age is likely to have lamp die depending on how much you watch it. Trying a lamp won't hurt because you will need one soon anyways

Problem with tv

Pretty typical for lamp life. Buy a new bulb (not the whole lamp assy) from us (sedonix.com) or one of the many bulb sources on the net, install it yourself and save a lot.

TV shuts off

I would suggest that you guys turn the unit off when this happens, unplug the unit for 30 seconds, plug it back in, and see if this helps. If this does not solve your problem, you should call 1-800-448-2244, so a service center in your local area can be found for further assistance.
