First you need to take the grill off the front of the micro there should be two screws on the very top of the unit that allow you to take the grill cover off there also should be two screws in the cabinet above the micro that hold the unit in place some models have a silver hook or latch on the left side that you pull forward to release the unit from the back plate do not pull on this till you have taken out the two set screw on top of the cabinet after doing this the micro should come down

Yes. you need to remove these two long screws and they dont break free easily. I want to know how you get them back in..I cant get them to bite.

If you are doing this without another strong person (which, actually, you might need another strong person) you may have to support the weight of the overhead microwave, from underneath with a car-jack & wooden blocks on top of the stove, to take the weight off of the possible two overhead massive bolt-hangers (on either side, that usually go up through the cabinets) and manage to lift it up far-enough, off, and forward of, the back wall bracket . Careful -- the old microwave is very heavy, and you don't want it to come-down on you !
If, when considering replacing the back wall bracket (to install the new microwave) you might want to not replace the existing bracket, if the new one would fit on it, and the new bracket looks flimsier, than the old bracket .

I removed the bolts for my Danby OTR microwave. Dmw162w-otr. The microwave does not move. Are there any other bolts or is there anything I am missing before I can remove the microwave?

In a normal installation, there is a plate that mounts to the wall and bolts come down through the cabinet. Once the bolts are removed from the cabinet above mic, the mic should hindge forward. It takes two people to handle. How ever, in some cases an installation guy will add screws into the side of the unit. So look for some screws to the right and left of mic. Good luck!

Kenmore microwave combination microwave turntable makes a loud sound like a bearing is going out. Can I fix it myself?

Is this an over-the-range (OTR) microwave oven? If so, it is easy to change that turntable motor. First unplug the microwave. Then remove the 6 to 8 screws that hold the bottom panel in place. It will tilt down, with the back being held by the wall bracket. Now you can easily get to the turntable motor. Remove the wires to it, and remove the 1 or 2 screws that hold it in place, and you can easily remove it. Before you can install the new motor, remove the glass try, and rotate the coupler so it lines up with the "D" shape of the shaft, push the motor up in place and replace the screws, then the wires to it, and finally re-fasten the bottom panel of the microwave.

Bulb replacement

Is it an over-the-range (OTR) microwave or a countertop microwave? If it's an OTR microwave, are you talking about the light(s) on the bottom of the microwave, or the one that lights up the cavity when you open the door or run the microwave?
If it's an OTR microwave, and the cavity light is burned out, you MAY be able to access it by removing the grill vent by removing the 2 to 4 screws above it. Then, depending on the model, either slide the grill vent to the left and pull it out, or else pull out the top part of it first. Then, if there is one, you may see an access cover behind the grill vent. Unplug the microwave, then remove the 2 screw that holds the access cover in place, and lift up and remove the cover. You should now be able to get to the light bulb.
If it's a counter-top microwave, you will have to remove the complete cover by removing the screws on the back, and possibly a couple of the sides. Note, 2 screws are special security screws to prevent the casual customer from fixing his own microwave oven! UNPLUG THE MICROWAVE FIRST, then remove the cover screws. Slide the cover back about 1/2 inch, and then it should come completely off. You should now be able to see the light bulb to change it. Then reverse the process to put the cover back on. I hope this helps.

How to replace lightbulb

Is this a countertop microwave or an over-the-rang (OTR) microwave? If it's a countertop model, you need to completely remove the outer case to get to the lightbulb. If it's and OTR microwave, there usually is an access cover located behind the grill vent. You can remove that grille vent by removing the 2 to 4 screws above the grill vent. Then either slide the grill vent 1/4" to the left to remove it, or else (depending on the model), just pull out the top of the grill vent, followed by the bottom. Then you should be able to see the lightbulb access cover. Usually there is 1 screw that you have to remove. But unplug the microwave before you to any further! Now remove the screw, lift up and remove the cover, and you should be able to get to the light bulb.

I want to remove/replace a 2000 GE JVM1640WB microwave and don't know how to access the mounting/securing screws to allow me to remove the old unit. Are they behind the top grill, which looks like it's...

I have found and provided a link installation instructions for your existing model. The front is held in place by two screws through the cabinet above into the top of the micro and the back is supported by a wall bracket. A new microhood will fit into the space, but will install a little differently. link to instructions:

How do I remove an old wall mounted Microwave.

I just removed mine this morning and was having the same problem, though mine did have the screws above going into the unit. You may have to pop the front vent cover off to locate the screws going to the wall bracket, if so remove those. Also, there are 2 tabs on the bottom of the wall bracket that the back bottom edge of the microwave slip into, keeping the microwave from being pulled forward. Tilt the microwave slightly forward and push the bottom back edge of the microwave up to clear the tabs. Hope this helps.

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.
