Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
I understand how frustrating that must be. How big is the hard-drive that came with your unit? Did you buy it brand-spanking new or used? Update to version 2.2. It came out last night. Then, once that is complete, shut down your PS3. Unplug everything from your memory card ports and usb slots. Unplug the power cable at both ends (from the wall and the ps3). Then switch the PS3 hard switch (on off, lever, not the soft method of turning it on by a mere touch). Leave it that way for 10 minutes. Plug power cable back in at the PS3 and then at the surge protector/power-strip (wall). Turn in on with the switch and then use the soft method (described above) on the front. That should fix it. If not, send it back for a warranty exchange. Good luck.

Tips for a great answer:
Jun 02, 2011 | Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
finger on the on/off sensor leave it their untill you console turns off then
take you finger off the sensor.
Place your finger back on the on/off sensor
leave it their until you hear 2 consecutive beeps then take your finger off.
Once the safe mode screen comes on select the
option PS3 SYSTEM RESTORE.
NOTE: A PS3 system restore will delete all data except the
OS. I recommend backing up your console
onto a USB flash drie if possible.
If the red standby light is blinking then its the YELLOW LIGHT OF DEATH and your motherboard needs to be fluxed and reflowed.
