This is not a full answer, but a tip on an easier way.to get to the pump. Instead of removing the gas tank. Just pull the bed off the truck! I guarantee that it will be easier. I did this on a 2001 S10 and it took less that an hour to remove the bed.
Remove the spare tire, and the tube that the tool to lower the tire goes through. You will need to unplug your tail lights under the back or the bed on both sides. There is also a grounding screw for the tail lights on each side that needs to be removed. Remove the screws that hold the gas tank filler hose to the side of the bed - right by the filler cap. Remove the tailgate (to make the bed lighter). Follow the frame down the length of the bed and you will find the bolts holding the bed on. There should be 6 or 8 bolts. My S10 had 8 bolts and my son's full size Chevy PU had 6 bolts (go figure?). Then just lift the bed off the truck. We did my S10 with 3 people and it had a camper shell and rack on it. My son's full size truck was lifted off with only 2 people. I would suggest 4 people however - one on each corner to make it easier to lift and control.
Replace the pump as described above and then you can start the engine to make sure everything works before setting the bed back on. NOTE: The fuel pump grounds back with the tail light ground. If the engine doesn't start right away, try grounding the wire back by the tail lights. It works like a charm. This is an especially nice way to do it if the gas tank is full! I spent 18 years as a professional mechanic and this is one of the slickest, least known tricks I have come across. I wish I'd known about it when I was wrenching for a living! Cheers!

SOURCE: where is the fuel pump fuse on a 1989 chevy s10

Fuses for the engine or exterior items are under the hood in a little black plastic box.

Fuses for the interior items are under the dash, up above the driver's left foot.

In either case, the fuse diagrams should be on the inside of the fuse cover.

SOURCE: I need to replace the fuel pump in my 1985 Chevy S10 Pickup.

EXACT PROCEDURE ! Please Rate Me Fairly for this!! Thank you And Good Luck !!

ELECTRIC PUMP

REMOVAL

  1. Before servicing the fuel pump the fuel system pressure must be relieved. See: Fuel Pressure Release
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Raise the car on a hoist.
  4. Remove the fuel tank. See Fuel Tank / Service and Repair.
  5. Remove the fuel tank sending unit and pump assembly by turning the cam lock ring counterclockwise. Lift assembly from the fuel tank.
  6. Pull the fuel pump up into the attaching hose while pulling outward away from the bottom support. Take care to prevent damage to the rubber insulator and strainer during removal. After the pump assembly is clear of the bottom support, pull the pump assembly out of the rubber connector for removal. NOTE: Inspect the fuel pump attaching hose for any signs of deterioration. Also check the rubber sound insulator at the bottom of the pump. Replace damaged or deteriorated parts.
INSTALLATION
  1. Push the fuel pump assembly into the attaching hose.
  2. Position the fuel tank sending unit and pump assembly into the fuel tank. Use a new "O" ring seal. NOTE: Care should be taken not to fold over or twist the strainer when installing the sending unit as this will restrict the flow of fuel. Also, verify that the strainer does not block the full travel of the float arm.
  3. Install cam lock over the assembly and lock by turning clockwise.
  4. Reinstall fuel tank.
MECHANICAL PUMP

REMOVAL and INSTALLATION

NOTE: To ease pump installation, rotate the camshaft so the camshaft eccentric is out of the way of the fuel pump rocker arm.

  1. Disconnect fuel lines from fuel pump.
  2. Remove fuel pump mounting bolts and the fuel pump.
  3. Remove all gasket material from the pump and block gasket surfaces. Apply sealer to both sides of new gasket.
  4. Position gasket on pump flange and hold pump in position against its mounting surface. Make sure rocker arm is riding on camshaft eccentric.
  5. Press pump tight against its mounting. Install retaining screws and tighten them alternately.
  6. Connect fuel lines. Then operate engine and check for leaks.

SOURCE: where is the oil sending unit located on a Chevy S10 Pickup.

I would not dismiss the possibility of the oil pressure switch being in the pump circuit...gm has used these on and off since the chevy vega. (remember them?)

Pickup died while driving it

You need to put a fuel pressure tester in the fuel rail and then determine weather or not you need the fuel pump replaced,if this is not the case then the throttle position sensor is likely the culprit.

Fuel pump 98 s10

Hi:
You must first drain and lower the fuel tank, as your pump is mounted inside. With the fuel tank supported, undo the tank mounting straps, and the filler hose, then slowly lower it until you can disconnect the fuel lines and electrical harness. The pump assembly is now accessable. Remove and replace the assembly , then reinstall the tank .
