Removing cover on Acer 5720z to access RAM

Hi, I've just bought an acer 5720Z, which is in desperate needed of additional RAM. I can't remove the rear cover - the smaller cover is over the hard drive, which i can remove, but the larger one - after removing it's four screws - still won't budge. Is there a trick here that anyone knows about for removing this cover? I've replaced RAM in my previous three computers and never had this problem - covers usually come off easily.

Sorry MDoe, the description in the Users Guide doesn't work. As with the original poster, I have plenty of experience with simple upgrades like this, but the cover simply doesn't "come off" when the screws are removed. I too went to the Users Guide and found the generic answer, but there's more to it than that (maybe you just keep prying until it pops off, but with a brand new laptop I'm not comfortable with exerting any more force than I've already applied for risk of breaking the back cover. Anyone know the trick for this?

    Thanks,

Removing cover on Acer 5720z to access RAM problem!

I just figured it out, remove the four screws. then use the starter notch getting your fingernail underneath and pulling up to get one little section up, then using a flat screwdriver work your way around carefully prying up as you go. There are about ten little tabs that are used to snap the cover on all the way around. pry up carefully but firmly all the way around, get about half way around and the whole cover will pop right off.

All of the above answers are correct. You have to use a little force to get the covers off and then back on, but they will flex. Why the manufacturers make it difficult, I dont know.

Acer 5720Z removing rear cover to access RAM

sure..be real careful with removing that..you may need to GENTLY pry that up, under the slot, that is on one side...make sure all screws are removed, or loosened..this may mean that your memory was NOT installed correctly in the first place(causing the door to jam)..

Or, you may have the magnetic memory(just kidding)
