Question about Panasonic PT-51HX41 51" Rear Projection Television
I am a newb at tv repair and I also don't know much about the elictrical lingo being used on this site, but I saw some similar problems on this forum but couldn't figure out how to apply the solutions because i couldn't understand what was being said.
Here's the problem: The tv quit working on me one day and everytime I turn the tv on it turns back off within three seconds. The only way it will come back on again is if I unplug the tv and plug it in again. I had the tv looked at by a professional and he couldn't tell me anything except that I needed to replace the whole motherboard which would cost $700. I haven't taken the back off the tv yet because I'm not sure what I would be looking for. Can you guys give me any suggestions and tell me what steps I should go about first.
First of all. The set is going into shutdown mode usually due to a component not functioning which allows a regulated voltage to rise and the set will shutdown to prevent further damage. Most repair shops have gotten away from component level repair as its easier to just replace the affected board. However this is probably something you can repair yourself if you have some experience with checking voltages with a digital meter and have some soldering abilities. However I would recomend not even attempting without the service manual and the understanding that there are dangerous voltages that can be present even when the set has been unplugged for a long time. If you would like the service manual I can post a link to the site that has the service manual and they will provide the free support that willhelp you diagnose the set. Its a free service they offer all you need to do is purchase the manual so you will have the info in front of you and they will exoplain how to go about checking and diagnosing the set. let me know if youd like the link and I will post it. I am one of their support techs.
