The power button is broken

Every time I use the power button to turn on the monitor, it just shuts off right away when I let go of the button. It's like the button is not catching.

We used this monitor for two years with no problems then we also experienced the same power problem. Using my electronics background I was able the verify that the problem was with the actual power switch. I ordered a replacement switch and installed it. The monitor now works like new again. The switch is available via online electronic suppliers. The part number I used was a TL2285EE made by E-SWITCH. I found that it is actually a little bigger then the original and believe that the original switch is actually a TL2230EE. The bigger switch fit with a little persuading and should last a little longer but the 2230 would fit much better. This job is not to hard for someone with some soldering experience.

Good Luck...We love our monitor again (we own two)

There is a thermal sensor in the motor which shuts power off if it gets too hot but usually it won't turn back on until it cools down. It seems you might have a defective switch

We have a Gateway FPD1730 monitor, P/NO 7004665. Manufactured in January 2004. Apparently the spring behind the power button has slipped or broken as the button has dropped back in the hole and cannot be...

THe push button (the button is used to push the switch shaft) is held in place with a plastic finger, it is broken off right now, that is why it dropped back in hole. This is how most of the front panel push buttons are made on most monitors, very cheaply made and design. If the finger is broken in the middle, some time I can fix it by using Silicone RTV to glue it down because the Silicone is flexible. You can try that out.

TURNS ON AND POWER TURNS OFF RIGHT AWAY.

Is the battery fully charged? If so unplug the device before turning it on. My roomates HP will shut off if plugged in while powered on it is most likely due to the compound on the heatsink.

Monitor is turning off, loosing screen.

your not being really specific, but if the screen is shutting off right away after turning it on, you have either a power supply problem, or its possible the on/off button switch is not working properly. Repairs on flat screens are usually around $80.00 + parts.

if its a screen saver or your computer going into standby mode you can change that in the control panel under display and going to power settings

thanks
