Question about Sony PlayStation 2 Slimline Console
I have read your posts about the PS2 Slimline laser replacement and I appreciate your information. My PS2 is not a slimline, but will not read the CD. It just spins and tries.
I am not experienced with small electronics, but I opened it up and it looks to me like the laser is trying to focus. It is moving in and out, over and over.
Additionally, the plastic clip that attaches the laser to the spinning screw to move it horizontally appears to be failing to grip the screw and move the laser. When I turn that screw by hand, the laser does not move, except sometimes the laser "jumps" like it is trying to move with the screw.
Do you have any suggestions?
Well i have just pulled a mates ps2 apart as he has had the same problem No Read Cds, i have found a component from the cd rom within the case. Soldered it back on and its back up running again...

Im guesing you have the original ps2 , so all you need to do is replace the laser arm , its not expensive at all .you need to do is unscrew the white plastic arm with a phillips or a small screwdriver be gentle and keep screw and lift the white arm off.You need to buy a laser arm either from ebay or http://www.quantronics.com.au/products/ps2/lasers .Make sure get the right one its different from each model of ps2 , you can determine your model by looking at the warrenty sticker and compare it to the table in the link (at bottom) http://www.ps2cover.com/ps2-modchip-model-number.shtml .When you buy the part get some oil (very light eg lithium grease or olive/vegetable oil and use a paint brush and try to brush over the bronze gear (where the clip is). Then align the two slanted groves to the gear screw (laser) then gently put the original screw back
Sorry for the late reply

Replace the DVD/CD drive. Reasonable costs if you look online.

First of all the new laser lens will not allow your Slim to read NTSC UC games if you have a PAL european Console.
There is no reason the New laser should have not read the disc unless it Came to you damaged. It sounds like you know how to replace a laser.
