Question about Whirlpool MH7135XE Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Nothing works, blank touch pad

I was attempting to undo the under side lights and the bulb seemed to separate from the base and all of a sudden the unit died. I tested the outlet for power and it was ok. I left unplugged for awhile and replugged but still nothing. Another site sounded as if I have blown a circuit board. Any help would be appreciated.

Before you replace a circuit board check the inline fuse on the unit if you take off the the front panel you usually can see the fuse it is a 20 amp fuse you will need an meter to check resistences across the fuse it should read read 1 to 2 olhs on the meter if that does not work then you need to check tstat on the megatron itself or the the cavity tstat more than likely it is the fuse

How do I replace lamp?

Yes, the light bulb base needs to come out so that you can replace the whole unit (bulb & base.) These lamps are known for separating when you try to remove them. I would recommend a needle-nosed pliers to get the base out. If you need to unscrew it and can't get ahold of it with pliers, you might try using a carrot! Cut the carrot a short ways down from the stem, then push the cut end into the socket and unscrew it.

I am having a problem with the under unit light not working. new bulb, no help. Interior light is good

If you are sure bulbs are good then problem is usually the main control board. This is an expensive fix just for lights but the relay that turns the lights on/off is mounted on the main board that also does everything for the microwave. Some older microwaves had separate switches for the lights that were not attached to the main board but almost all newer units have everything on the board and work through the same touch pads on the control panel.

I shorted out the counter lights on my frigidair microwave. The microwave works but not the lights. I've replaced the bulbs. What next?

The metal base may have fused together from electrical arcing when the old bulb was removed. The entire bulb receptacle (socket) will have to replaced. If you cannot do that yourself, the cost would be excessive. Just live without the light as long as the microwave gets the job done.

That's a problem on the circuit board which can be repaired simply and inexpensively.

Hello, I have a Panasonic MMT573SBBPQ microwave oven. 1. The turntable table stopped working. 2 Tested motor all OK 3. Noticed bulb had blown - replaced this (as was on same circuit as motor) 4. result :...

Check the door switch and once the door is shut the board must be active. If there is no clock or display then the processor board is faulty. Also if there is no action from the touch pad then it must be checked. Since the turntable works as you start the processor seems to work but the output to the magnetron is not active. So you need to check the relay to the magnetron switching, check the temperature cut off unit and the main capacitor.
All the above seems to be suspected.
Attempt with care/caution as there is high voltage present.

You could try the potato trick. Take a small to medium potato. Cut off an end of the potato. Press the cut end into the broken lightbulb and unscrew the rest of the bulb out.

Microwave touch pad work light doesn't work

We see this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide for $39.95 postpaid.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

Light bulb replacement

Yes it just unscrews.  Unplug the microwave first!  Then use some needle nose pliers and put them inside the base open the pliers to put pressure on each side of the base.  Now turn the base counterclockwise.  Let me know how it turns out.

Surface lights

I also have had a problem with the glass part of the surface light bulb separating from the metal base when trying to change the bulbs under my G.E. Spacemaker Microwave.. I see someone used a carrot or potato but I had not seen this suggestion before I whittled one end of a wine cork small enough to insert into the metal part of the old bulb stuck in the socket. It also worked great and in no time I was able to get the old base out and replace the bulb. I'll save the cork for next time because it seems to happen to at least one of the bulbs everytime they need to be changed. DON'T FORGET TO UNPLUG THE MICROWAVE FIRST!
