GPU Error. Code 0022 on my xbox 360

So I finally got the 3 red lights on my 360. Well, it's not under warranty. I attempted the "towel trick" as a last resort. Didn't work. After this, I got the error codes off the xbox. What I got was "0022". Which according to sources, it means GPU Error/GPU Overheating. Is there anyway to fix this problem without voiding any possible future warranty on it?

I have the same error code, I've replaced the x clamp and everything else I have found except for the towel trick. Not sure what else to do, I might have to break down and by a new system.

There is a very simple fix to this issue and I am not sure why it is not being talked about. I will have to make a video and post it for everyone to see, but in short, you need to overheat the GPU while keeping the CPU cool.
Now, if you do not know what you are doing, I would wait until I make a video about it. However, if you are comfortable taking your Xbox apart then it is simple.
You will need to disaseble the box all of the way down to removing the top cover and exposing the board. You do not need to remove the DVD or the fan, however you will need to take off the plastic piece that vents the fan air into the heat sinks. After you get that far, take the fan out of the case. DO NOT UNPLUG IT, as you will need it. Just pull it out of its holding spot. Next, you will want to move the DVD drive off to the side, away from the GPU heat sink, but leave it plugged in. Then set the fan on top of the CPU heat sink, the taller one, so that it does not overheat. Then turn your system on and let it RROD, then leave it on for about 10-15 min. What this will do is overheat the GPU and reflow the solder underneath it. After 10-15 min, turn your system off, let it cool, put it back together, and you should be good to go! I have done this on 3 systems that came up with error codes related to the CPU or GPU, and all 3 are now working again. Good luck!

This is a really efficient way to burn out your motherboard so it never works again, according to most techs who do professional reflows or reballs. It might work for a while but most techs agree that it does even more damage to the system. If people learn the correct way to flux the GPU and CPU, then do a reflow with a heat gun, then let the board cool for the appropriate amount of time (about 1/2 hour), then apply fresh thermal compound (preferably Arctic Silver 5), and finally to install an X-clamp fix kit and put the system back together without damaging anything, their Xboxes will work for months or even years.

0022 CPU error, generally caused by a poor connection to the mainboard (cold solder joints/bridged solder joints). This can also be triggered by an error with the TSOP.

@xx Mimic xx: thats true that will work for a while, but in time, the sub error 0022 will eventually show back up again...really what needs to be done is just have the mother board taken out completely and reflowed...

The error code 0022 means thers too much pressure on the gpu if you did the x clamp fix undo the screws a little not much just a little, i got the same problem i did the x clamps for e73 + 1 red light and when i had finshed i got 3 red light and that error code then i undid the screws slightly and then started it up and it came alive, not sure if it will work for everyone but its worth a try

Code 0022 means that the connection is lost in yourcircuit board bit. maybe theres a jump between two soldering parts or 2 wires are touchin. take the case off and make sure nothing is touching then start it back up again. this worked for me. DO NOT unplug anything inside, and make sure you dont break the circuit.

3 red lights xbox360

This is known as the Red Ring of Death. It's an infamous problem with the 360, and is related with overheating. I would start by letting the Xbox cool down, lay the 360 horizontally, on a flat surface, then check the connections. At this point, if the lights are still flashing, then you will most likely have to purchase a new console. There are a number of tips and tricks you can look up online (Google "red ring of death fix") but these should be used only as a last resort as they are not guaranteed to work, and will void your warranty.

Freezes,and red lights come on

This is called the red-ring of death. Call 1-800-4my-xbox and they can help you with this situation. If you haven't had your 360 over 3 years, than they will fix it free under the warranty. Another trick others have said works, is to wrap a towel around your 360. This will heat up your xbox, and reconnect any soldering that seperated. The towel trick is only a theory I heard...not sure how much truth there is to it. Worth a shot. :D

3 Red Lights: General Hardware Failure

This could one or more of many different problems. Before doing anything rash, I suggest you just send in your xbox provided it is still under warranty. If it's not, then there are ways. The most heard of way that I know of is knows as "the towel trick." Below are links I have found providing more information on this "trick".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_technical_problems

http://three-red-lights.blogspot.com/2008/01/towel-trick-how-to-fix-your-xbox-360.html

BEFORE YOU GO AND DO THIS: I urge you to not leave your xbox alone as it could potentially start a fire. Not likely, but possibly.

I personally believe this to be quite possible. There have been numerous cases reported to verify that this can work. It is not 100% full-proof. I can tell you that it will not void your warranty. If you have a warranty, it may just provide a quick fix for you while you wait on the packaging.

Other than that, you can find more info online on ways to fix it but may involve voiding your warranty.

Weird green and red discoloration

I had this problem with my last 360 that I had, I did the towel trick for about 2 or 3 months and it finally gave up on me. I was forced to turn it in to Microsoft and have them fix it. If you don't have a warranty you will have to pay 150$ to get it fixed. If you don't want it fixed and rather get a new one, Ebay sells new ones for around 230$. I know there are ways to fix it by opening your 360, but you have a greater chance of damaging it even more and ruining your warranty on your 360. Which Microsoft will not fix once you have opened it yourself.
