Being an audiophile and new to Hong Kong, I'm looking for YOUR opinions on mid-top end hifi availible in Hong Kong. Having to leave my beloved HiFi in England, I am looking for a system equivilent or better than the system I have back home;
Meridian 508 20bit cd player DPA Englightment Dac Naim 32.5 pre amp Naim nap110 power amp Nakamichi CR7 tape deck Mana accoustics support and plinths Vdh/Audioquest cabes and XLO/WBT plugs Naim Hi-Cap Monitor Audio Studio 2SE speakers/ Sonus Faber Amuture and a decent set of stands!
I will be utterly greatful if you can tell me where to get hold of these products (New or second hand) or even better if you can suggust of any which you are familiar with.
Also I would like to know what you think of Bryston amps.
Thank you for your attention and a hope for your reply.
Meridian 508.20 is not very popular in Hong Kong. In my personal opinion, I think you probably can consider Sony XA7ES as a replacement -- I believe both players are Stereophile Class A products but the Sony is much cheaper in HK when compare to the high list price in US.
The more popular CD players in Hong Kong are from Wadia, Mark/Proceed, and Krell. You can get from the second hand market as well but I can't quote the price in details. Sonic Frontier SFCD-1 is around $28000 and I saw "New in the box" parallel imported at around $20,000 in Hong Kong. =20
Sorry not heard of this. Second hand DAC in Hong Kong is not that expansive. HK audiophiles change their equipment quite often and DAC is probably on the top of the list as new technology comes out from time to time.
I know Naim is famous for its musical attribute. Unfortunately this is also not a very popular brand so getting a Naim here is a bit tricky. I have a friend who just sold his Naim 42.5/140 at below HK$6000 (very low price because unpopular and low profile). He has a Naim Hi-Cap here as well and is asking for HK$6000. If you are interested in this one, drop me a email ASAP.
On Pre and Power amp., the choice is large in second hand market. But the popular solid state makers, I think Rowland and Classe is not difficult to purse in second hand market. Or maybe you can consider tube amp. as well. I saw Golden Tude SE40 for around $6K in very good condition here. A Pass Aleph 3 can be obtained at around $11000 to $13000, I suppose these are the more "musical" amp. that I have in mind at this moment.
I don't suppose you want a replacement on this, right?
Cable is a very large market in Hong Kong when comapre to US or Europe. I think the cable company sold more high-end cables to here than to UK as a whole. So you'll get lots of choice here, new or second handed. But I am not sure about the price difference.
Monitor Audio is a very popular brand in Hong Kong, so getting them new is not a problem. The Studio 2 is a small bookshelf speaker, right? One of the dealer is putting up a "removal sales" and is selling the MA Studio 2 Rosewood at HK$5990. Aldo for your reference, the latest advertisement ask for HK$6800 for the famous MA Monitor 700 and $8600 for PMC702.=20
Sonus Faber is avaialbe in Hong Kong but I am not familiar with their product.
I link Bryston amps. myself and I think Aragon is very competitive on the same line. The Bryston 4BST is getting a lot of attention recently as several local magazine has put up rave review on it. They are around $17500 in Hong Kong (new from shop).
Hope this is helpful to you.
