Do you have cable or satellite? How are you trying to connect the receiver?

  • digiteyes May 11, 2010

What are you trying to do, listen to your receiver's audio on your TV, or the TV audio on the receiver?

First, TURN THE VOLUME DOWN. We don't test with max volume any more than we start our cars with the accelerator floored.

How is the audio from your TV getting to the HTS? Name names and be specific.

Your TV audio output may be dependent on its volume control. Many TV's have a FIXED setting in their setup so you can lower or turn their speakers off while letting REAL electronics and speakers handle the sound duty.

OR, you could (and should) bypass the TV entirely as an audio source and go to the cable box's audio output.

Setting up this system, i can t adjust the volume when attached to the TV with the RCA leads. Seems to come through at a set volume. Works fine on its own, but cant hook it up with my excisting system

Drawing audio from a TV has its limitations. Refer to the TV's manual regarding volume control of the audio OUTPUT.

If you MUST go this way, I'd still suggest using a Fixed output so you can turn the TV's speakers down or off without killing the signal to the Curtis. (TV's are on the low end of the audio food chain and actually will degrade rather than improve it.)

You could get the BEST possible TV-related audio directly and digitally from the source you're watching.

I hooked it up the way the manual said and it doesnt work

Try whatever applies best below, in order...

Cable Box optical Digital Audio to Digital Audio In. (This brings TV-related multi-channel and normal audio into the receiver so you can hear it over the speakers. Turn TV volume OFF.

The cable box probably has a pair of stereo Audio Out RCA jacks. Run those directly to the TV so you can watch and hear cable programming over the TV's speakers without having to turn the system on. Turn TV volume UP.

Depending on your TV's Video In capabilities, use the Cable Box HDMI, Component (Red, Blue and Green), or Composite Video (single Yellow associated with the Audio Out) directly attached to the TV.

Trouble with volume on certain channnels

If you get good audio on most and then low or very low audio on certain channels then call you cable company and have them inspect this problem. It is their business to get both good video and audio to you.

Volume Problem with my TV and Home Theater system

I had the same problem with mine. The solution I found was to use an optical audio cable rather than the red and white RCA audio jacks. Hope this helped.

Home theatre but TV without audio outlet

I would suggest that you smash
Philips HTS w/a hammer!
I had better sound from TV alone! Only 2 speakers put out sound from TV. Recordings from DVR can not be heard very well w/all volumes at max. System sucks! You get what you pay for! $2500 LCD TV sounds worse w/Philips HTS than my son's $300 TV! ALL cables hooked up as instucted!!!!
