It is indicating that you have missed calls.
If you put the phone in the base cradle and then press the volume button up - keep pressing until you hear a loud bleep - that should solve it.
I had to do it twice but it did stop it.

eventually contacted the BT team via telephone and apparently this is a common problem when using BT products with Talktalk & Virgin. To overcome this in the majority of cases, dial 1571 and connect to your voicemail, listen to the options and finally delete all messages. Hope this can be added to your list of solutions.
Hi
Had the same problem with my BT Studio 1500 phones both flashing "BASE 1" . Again could not find solution on web! BUT phoned the free BT helpline on 08001456789.
They told me to switch off electricity supply to the base unit then switch it back on.
(The fault is due to the base unit losing the signal and just needs to be "rebooted")
To Mrs Sue Groom, You probably need to register the handsets to the base. This is the user manual for the BT Studio 1500 http://www.shop.bt.com/content/uni2/documentation/43py/023626.pdf
