Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

I have 2 Cerwin-Vega speakers that stand on the floor Both have blown bass components and blown fuses. They have adjustable mid and horns and the bass is also adjustable. Can I replace these items separately, or am I out of luck?

Hi there,
of course you can replace the bass components and the fuses.
If you are not sure if the bass driver are actually blow try to replace the fuses first. You can easily find the fuses in any electronic components shop (like Radioshack or Maplin).
If the cones are blown they can be repaired (some specialists can do that) or just contact cervin-vega for the spare if available.

Try to check voltage input. Because when we increases the bass or volume it takes more power to modulate.. this might solve your issue..

Poping sound coming from pioneer amp

whitrashtruk,
Your M-91 has a 8 ohm rated amp. Your CV's are 4 ohm speakers. When your reduce the resistance the amp see's it requires the amp to work harder and will max out at much lower volume knob levels.

Simply put, you have big speakers that require big power. You receiver is not capable of providing the big power you need and will only cause damage to your speakers and receiver.

Buy a larger dedicated amp for your speakers as you will never hear the full potential of your CV's from any receiver. Both great components; just not a good match for each other.

I am buying a pioneer vsx-d414 receiver and want to no if it will drive my cerwin vega e-712 speakersv says for receivers rated 8ohms or lower.. , just currious

Yes the Pioneer will drive the Cerwin Vega speakers. The Pioneer requires at least 8 ohm speakers and if the Cerwin Vega speakers are 8 ohms, it won't be ******* the receiver.

The speakers you have are high wattage, so the Pioneer may not be able to get the most out of them, but it should be pretty good.

It is always good to have speakers rated at a higher wattage than the receiver, that way the receiver will not fry the speakers. No matter what the wattage of a speaker, it will not pull more power out of an amplifier than the amplifier is capable of delivering. Some people have a mis-conception that if a speaker is higher rated that it will blow up the amp, this is just not true. Speakers do not pull power from an amp, they only put out as much power as the amp is pushing into them. But you can blow up an amp by driving it too hard for too long of time. They just get too hot and the heat stresses the amp circuit after a while.

I hope this helps.
