The loud noise could have been a result of ALOT of dust in the cooling fan. (you said it was a used system). It would have held the heat in and caused the internal parts to fry.

3 Red Lights: General Hardware Failure

This could one or more of many different problems. Before doing anything rash, I suggest you just send in your xbox provided it is still under warranty. If it's not, then there are ways. The most heard of way that I know of is knows as "the towel trick." Below are links I have found providing more information on this "trick".

BEFORE YOU GO AND DO THIS: I urge you to not leave your xbox alone as it could potentially start a fire. Not likely, but possibly.

I personally believe this to be quite possible. There have been numerous cases reported to verify that this can work. It is not 100% full-proof. I can tell you that it will not void your warranty. If you have a warranty, it may just provide a quick fix for you while you wait on the packaging.

Other than that, you can find more info online on ways to fix it but may involve voiding your warranty.

Xbox 360 is freezing with no red rings and an intercooler?

The freeze ups normally happen before the red lights of doom and they are caused by the GPU and the CPU getting too hot and the soldering snaps off so they lose connection.

If you stop the heat build up you will be fine.

You can do this yourself using a good repair guide or you can send it in and they will fix it for you.

As long as you stop most of the heat getting to the GPU and the CPU you will be fine.

The system froze while playing a game, and now

If your PS3 is freezing up then this happens in much the same way as the 3 red lights on the Xbox 360.

The GPU and the CPU heat up and you need to stop the heat to fix it.

You can send it in and pay $130 to get it fixed or you can use the recommended PS3 Repair guide that will have it fixed for you in under an hour!

The console froze twice as i was playing game, then three red lights are flashing on & off , and now nothing.

3 red lights on the Xbox 360 is the most common error and it means "General Hardware failure. To fix this you need to stop the amount of heat that the GPU and the CPU is taking.

To do this you can use the recommended guide that has been on the market for 3 years or you can send it in.

If you stop the heat you will be fine.

Xbox360 red 3 lights on front of console.

You have the proverbial "Red Ring of Death"

Your X-box has encountered a critical error and must be sent to Microsoft for repair.

Good luck man, my friend had to send his back twice before it finally started working right.

360 probs

It's dead. Too bad. The solutions is listed here:
1. Call Xbox support and tell them that your Xbox(or Xbox 360) is broken. Free while within warranty, costs about $200+ if you are out of warranty.
2. Try the towel trick. I do not recommend this while you are in warranty.
3.Ask someone here to repair your 360. There are a good number of
people here that will lend you a helping hand.

XBox 360 freezing- Not what you think

Your system is headed for the dreaded red ring w/ three red rings. My system started doing the same thing just before this happend. If you have a service plan with it i would suggest returning it and getting a new one.

I tried all the there little tricks as well deleted everything off my harddrive all that good stuff i think it made mine worse. Cuz after all that i turned it back on and bam three red lights and no picture or sound.
