Also dont get a processor with a higher FSB than your board supports. Acer website gives no indication of board specifications but does say that the T180 supports the following processors AMD Sempron™, AMD Athlon™ 64 and AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor with NVIDIA® nForce® chipset. If you are running XP you need minimum 512mb RAM and Vista minimum of 1GB RAM.

Follow this link, download and run the program the cpu and cpu id will tell you the front side bus speed, the pin configuration (AM2)
Multiplier etc.

The mother board tab will id the board and chip sets to check manufacturer of the board and see what processor support there is.

Judging by your specs its upgradeable to an athlon 64- 4000 2.6 ghz.

Need to look at the motherboard specs along with the processor "Socket". It will usually be a 754 or 939 depending on what your motherboard says. I wouldn't try too fast and set yourself up for disappointment. I would upgrade the RAM before the processor.

I want to upgrade from a AMD Sempron processor 2800+ 1.6GHz 192MB to a faster AMD processor with more RAM. I have an Acer 3002LC laptop. Can you advise me what CPU will support this...

My advice to you is to purchase a faster/newer laptop.

A new processor plus labour to install the CPU will cost a substantial amount of money and the performance gain will be marginal. Also RAM bottle neck come into affect as 192mb of RAM is not going to cut it, now-days you need at least 2GB of it. I myself prefer AMD their new AMD Athlon 2 X2 CPUs perform really well.

I jus need the drivers for the AMD Sempron 2800+. my other computer doesn't know what kind of processor it has.

You don't need driver for your processor. You need to upgrade your bios software, because Bios tells you the type of CPU.

Your socket is AM2. You can put any AMD processor that has AM2. If the processor is AM3 just upgrade the bios of your motherboard and it should work. If you need further assistance, just leave a comment. Cheers

Hi Paul,

Correct, you have to use the same type, but you can upgrade to a faster CPU.

According to the specs for your computer it can take the following:

AMD Sempron processor 2600+ to 3300+, 333MHz FSB
AMD Athlon processor 2800+ to 3200+, 400MHz FSB

See:

http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/desktop/0000/Acer/AspireT135/AspireT135sp2.shtml

The Athlon's are better...faster Bus. The Sempron is cheaper.

The 2 processors you describe are very similar. The difference between the 2 is that the first one is capable of running 64-bit operating systems and applications. The second one is strictly for 32-bit systems.

The next question will probably be, "What do I have?" Probably a 32-bit system. You can go with the 64-bit CPU and be safe as it can run both. You can see what your old one is by the revision number on the top of the CPU. You can use the following comparison chart to see the differences:

Sempron 3100+ Comparison

I hope this has been some help. Maybe it has just caused more questions. Just ask.

Thanks for using Fixya.

I need to run Autocad 2010 on my computer but it won't even instal because I have an AMD 3000+ 2Ghz processor. Is it possible to upgrade the processor without buying a whole new computer?

Autocad 2010 needs SSE2 to run.
The only Semprons which didn't have SSE2 are those for socket A, so I assume you're running a socket A mainboard. I checked and there are no socket A processors that support SSE2 unfortunately.

I think that you could replace your mainboard and the cpu cheaply witha a socket 754 mainboard (which supports SSE2 CPUs and should run with your old ram).

However I advise to upgrade to newer system with AM2 socket or so - they aren't expensive and the increase in performance in power-hungry applications such as AutoCad will be noticeable.

I want to upgrade to use ocz platnum memory. I have a acer aspire 1.8 gig 3100+ processor. No shielding. Most kits are discontinued. What type of heat shielding and fan is used if I can find the 1.8 gig...

You are using a very old socket/CPU I very much doubt you will find a retailer that sells new kits or whatever your looking for (kinda hard to decipher your question) As for shielding, shielding for what? wires?
Also you really wont have any performance gain upgrading to a 3200 over a 3100+

I'd recommend upgrading your board totally to a 939 or higher like a AMD AM2 platform. Then you can browse dozens of OCZ kits and have many dual and quad processors to choose from.

How to upgrade

Here is the list of compatible processors for your motherboard:

AMD Athlon 650, 700, 750, 800, 850, 900, 950, 1.0G, 1.1G, 1.2G, 1.3G, 1.33G, 1.4G (Thunderbird)
AMD Athlon MP 1.0G, 1.2G, 1500+, 1600+, 1800+, 1900+, 2000+, 2100+ (Palomino)
AMD Athlon MP 2000+, 2200+, 2400+, 2600+ (Thoroughbred)
AMD Athlon MP 2800+ (Barton)
AMD Athlon XP 1500+, 1600+, 1700+, 1800+, 1900+, 2000+, 2100+ (Palomino)
AMD Athlon XP 1600+, 1700+, 1800+, 1900+, 2000+, 2100+, 2200+, 2400+, 2600+, 2700+, 2800+ (Thoroughbred)
AMD Athlon XP 2500+, 2600+, 2800+, 3000+, 3200+ (Barton)
AMD Athlon XP 2000+, 2200+, 2400+ (Thorton)
AMD Sempron 2200+, 2300+, 2400+, 2500+, 2600+, 2800+ (Thoroughbred)
AMD Sempron 2200+, 2400+, 2500+, 2600+, 2800+ (Thorton)
AMD Sempron 3000+ (Barton)
AMD Duron 600, 650, 700, 750, 800, 850, 900, 950 (Spitfire)
AMD Duron 1.0G, 1.1G, 1.2G, 1.3G (Morgan)
AMD Duron 1.4G, 1.6G, 1.8G (Applebred)
You motherboard uses a "Socket A" CPU and therefore has limits to how high you can go.. I would recommend the XP 2200 or 2400+ as a good choice, but you can make your own choice.

Does the motherboard for the model w3107 e machine with the sempron cpu processor driver upgrade deemed compatiable

The AMD Sempron 3100+ Processor is the highestspeed CPU you can run in the W3107 E-machine. No there are no drivers that need to enabled. The system bios sets up the cpu. Did you install this CPU?
