YOU WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE COMPLETE RED PICTURE TUBE ASSEMBLY--THATS JUST THE START,,THERE ARE A LOT OF ADJUSTMENTS INVOLVED IN THIS JOB---ALSO THAT GEL OR FLUID,IF SPILLED ON THE CIRCUIT BOARDS WILL CAUSE EVEN MORE PROBLEMS---NEED A TECH FOR THIS ONE!!!!!!!!!

Pls check that model number........the problem description does not match that of a 1999 crt proj tv.........I believe yours is a newer lcd projection around 4 or 5 yr old?? Lamp light flashing on any brand is indicative of the lamp not lighting . The lamp is the most likely cause, but the ballast board can cause this as well..................you should see an access door refer to owner book of the correct model and you can replace yourself...........it may cost around $200 and avaiolable at encompass parts .com Hitach distributor
Unfortunately, this can and does initially cost upwards of two grand to repair. The problem lies in the PPCR interlocking interface the MMCR-2 High Density Residual link share in common - a major conflict has occurred. Basically the Hitachi core is fried and the corresponding Red X-Y pixel grid map has been destroyed as a result. Was the set exposed to physical damage of some kind?
Considering the extensive damage to the Hitachi Algorithm - it may not be cost effective to fix.....
Same problem. Replaced both convergence ICs about 5 months ago. Worked fince since then and just recently no sound, no video, blinking red on front panel and clicking sound. I suspect that the ICs went bad again and blew a resistor or two. I used cheap Chinese ICs instead of the Sanyo ones and thing this is why. I'll be looking at it again and post solution.
The 46H84 has 3 CRTs instead of a lamp. Red, Green and Blue. Your red CRT is shorting out shutting down the set. Here is how you test that theory. Remove the speaker grille, there will be an access panel behind the grille remove that and you will see the CRTs red is usually on the left. hit the power momentarally to locate which tube is red. then power down and unplug the power cord. Carefully remove the tubes Circuit board. ( you may have to carefully slice the glob of silicone applied at the factory to get the circuit board off) Once you have the circuit board off the Red CRT make sure it isnt touching anything and try powering up the set. If the set stays on and the other 2 CRTs light up. That tells you the RED crt is shorted and thats whats shutting your set down. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Wally, 2 things can cause that, 1) bad solder on red driver transistor (mounted on Red picture tube board) 2) bad red cathode in the red tube which means big bucks (new tube), may not even be available on that old of a set. Hope this helps BMW Rider
Refer to owners manual ! Blinking indicates the type of fault that is occuring on all your tv sets. example : power light on red - indicator light beside it green but blinks rapidly for half a second rapidly then shuts off. This refers to a faulty lamp or a lamp that is near its expiration. Read your manuals if indicators refer to easy repair sweet, but if it says call tech then bummer...
