Control+A to highlight all the files you want to move then control+X to cut or control+C to copy then go to the destination drive to which you want to paste the files.

try opening in a linux machine and you should have all the hard drive files still on there ready to be used and take them and then reformat you hard drive once you have moved your files to a safe place. and then format back to fat32(works on both mac and windows although limit is only 4gb single file sizes are allowed) or ntfs (only works for windows machines)and copy and paste files back onto the drive

Moving the iTunes Music Files to a Different Hard Disk/Folder

If you are low on disk space in your iTunes folder then you can move these music files to another hard drive and keep your music library in tact without the need to create your music library again.

If you want to transfer your iTunes to an external USB hard drive, make sure that it is powered up and connected to your computer before opening iTunes.
Opened iTunes, click Edit and then Preferences. Click the Advanced tab.
Make sure the Keep iTunes Media folder organized checkbox is checked, and click Change.

Then select the location where you would like to move your files to. Click Select the Hard Drive and Folder or OK once you’re done.

The files will not move into their new positions by themselves –To do this – click File, Library and Organize Library. Check Consolidate Files.

When this process has been completed, go to the new location of your iTunes media and check the music files to see if they have migrated across correctly. Also play one or more tunes to test the music files.

The redundant iTunes music files can now be deleted from the original iTune location (C:\Documents and Settings\…..…\My Documents\My Music\iTunes). Delete everything from iTunes there except files titled iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml. These are still needed.

I need to make room on my internal ''C'' drive...was advised to move as many folders as poss to free up space. Have moved Pix, Movies, Doc, Links etc to my WD 500 gb ext HD, but cannot move desktop or...

Have you "emptied" your Recycle Bin?

From the "Start" menu, look in "Accessories".
One of the accessories is a "disk cleanup tool". Run it.
It will also delete all your "Temporary Internet Files" that Internet Explorer has created.

Now that you have "moved" your pictures and movies,
what will you do if your external hard-drive "dies",
taking your _only_ copy of those files to its grave?

It's time to buy a *NEW* "internal" disk-drive, e.g., 400GB for under $100 for a "laptop" disk-drive, reinstall Windows onto it, and copy (not "move") all your files from the external disk-drive to the new disk-drive.

Local Disk C running out of space but the D drive has plenty of space. How to make the D drive the primary partition? Os in on C drive windows Vista.

Do you run Disk Cleanup regularly (once a month)? This will free up disk space on the C drive, it remover old temporary files and compressed files as well as other files.
You can also move and save your data files to the D drive, so the C drive has only the operating system files and program files.

My C drive full

Hi

You can move anything except system files and user settings. Before proceed further I suggest you to perform "Disk Clean Up" which is a simple application under accessories.

You can put iTunes files to the other drive. All documents and media files as well can be transferred and they will work without problem. Please post if you need further assistance

Good Luck

have you tried to scan disk the drive and to fix problems with folder signature and have you had the virus scanner on this drive if not get it done you may have a virus on drive once you have scanned drive the only solution is to move all files off that you can and after you have scanned drive if it lets you in to that folder then move all that you can off to another drive then write down all files you can't move off that drive then format drive then move files back then find files that you had to destroy again and place these back on. I Have to do this all the time
