How to restore factory settings on a dell inspiron 230 using disk

Hi,
if you want to reinstall OS:
Insert the disk, it should automatically open the install.exe thing and you'll need to follow the instructions.

if you want to restore the computer to factory settings and reinstall OS:
turn off your PC
keep pressing the key for boot menu it's F8 or F12 or F11 depending on the PC's manufacturer.
Then there will be either a boot menu or a "Do you want to do a system restore":
a) system restore, keep pressing the key and it will load. Then follow the instructions
b) if it's boot menu, insert the disk, and then select the option which says to load from the CD/DVD. Then follow the instructions.

NOTE - PLEASE BE CAREFUL, IF MAKE ANY MISTAKE, COMPUTER MAY NOT RECOVER.

My laptop says no bootable device insert disk what is wrong?

NO BOOTABLE DEVICE When the PC cannot see a boot file/disk on either the hard disk or floppy drive it gives an error message "No bootable device. Insert boot disk and press any key" First thing, check to see if the is a floppy disk in the floppy drive, if so removes this disk. If there was no disk in the floppy drive then it may be a hard disk problem.
Check the BIOS to see if the hard disk is detected, if not open the case and re-seat the data cable on the hard drive and also where it connects to the motherboard disk controller.
If it still gives this error message and the BIOS does not detect this hard drive, then the hard drive is probably faulty.
A further check on the hard drive, remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a working computer's USB port, if this computer does not detect it as an external storage device then the hard drive is faulty.
To get the computer operating again, install a new hard drive in your computer and then install Windows on this hard drive plus the computer's device drivers and your programs.

I have windows xp professional and when I run my

If you get the error-message when you try to boot your computer, your disk-drive is either:
1. not connected to the motherboard
2. improperly connected to the motherboard
3. dead/dying, so that the Operating System files on the disk-drive *CANNOT* be read.

So, the computer tries to boot from an "alternative" device (either the 3.5-inch device or the CD-ROM device) -- if you don't have any media inserted into either device, you will get the error-message.

Toshiba laptop when turned on it freezes as windows is starting

Insert the disk in the cd rom and restart your computer......enter bios and change the boot settings...to boot from cd rom......boot of the cd and look for options such as check disk....repair disk...disk tools.....do a check disk ...or run a repair.....

Once you boot of the cd it will give you step by step details as how to repair the OS....

If you are unable to boot from cd..download a UBCD and created a boot cd this is much easier to use...

keep me posted
