Question about KitchenAid (KSRD22FKST) Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Ice won't dispense, no power to water light

Model KSBS25FKBL00, manufactured 01-02. Ice maker works fine, neither cubed nor crushed ice will dispense through door, makes sound when push bar for cube (hum, then clicking sound which seems to be flap slowly closing), but no sound for crushed. Just before this happened last week, light for water quit working, testing bulb showed no power to freezer exterior door water light. Water dispenses just fine. We made sure auger not frozen, though it has in the past. Water filter is recent, green light.

aborcass, thank you for your advice. If this turns out to be the solution it is probably beyond our capabilities. Meanwhile, we are contacting Kitchenaid directly to see what they suggest. I'll post back when we have more information.

I am happy to report that this issue has been resolved satisfactorily. It turns out that aborcass was 100% correct.

We contacted KitchenAide more than once, speaking to the supervisor's supervisor. We also spoke with two local appliance repair companies here in Denver, CO, one of whom we chose to come verify the broken part. The upshot was that after much persistence, KA agreed to replace the door, AT NO COST TO US WHATSOEVER! Other consumers have had the same problem over the years.

We had to wait about 8 weeks for the door to be built, as it turned out that KA had a backlog of over 50 doors to build. Once it was delivered to the local appliance repair company they promptly installed it, also for no charge, as KA reimbursed them for the labor.

We were told that this was a one-time courtesy from KA, that the installer must install the door correctly, with a bit of extra slack in the harness, so that the wires would not pinch again.

We are very pleased that this worked out, thanks to this site and arborcass, and to a very understanding helpful supervisor at the local applicance repair company.

I would check hte wire harness leadngto the door under hte freezer hinge. itll be wrapped in a black web like covering. Just under hte unit itself follow ht ewire and unplug hte harness. then carfully cut hte black webbing and inspect wires. there tends ot be apinch point there and the wires will sheer from one another, . if so there is no replcing hte harness, the door would have to be replaced at a cost of nealry $600. not enough room for a wire nut, but hav had sucess using stright inline bullet style connector, or others have sucessfully soldered connections back in place

Aborcass gave us the correct solution. A very belated Thank You. After much ado and gnashing of teeth, I was able to persuade the KitchenAid folks to replace the door at no charge to us. We were fortunate, really, as we were still in the time frame of the warranty, and apparently this had become an almost common problem with this model. After ordering it and waiting several weeks, the entire door was replaced as there was no fixing the harness. We could tell that the KA folks were not happy, but we persisted, had to have several phone conversations with different people, and a visit from an AUTHORIZED (very important) technician. They told us if it broke again, it would be on our dime.

3 years have now passed, and we have had no more problems. I would advise all consumers with a serious appliance issue to: 1. Keep records of all phone calls, visits and issues in great detail, including dates, times, full names and contact phone #s, and what was discussed; 2. Be persistent, especially when you feel you are in the right, and the product has failed prematurely. Talk to local appliance repair people by phone, try several, eventually you may find an "eagle" to help advise you. Do research on the web, but be cautious. Don't try to fix it yourself if it is obvious a professional is needed.

The solution for this problem necessitated an outrageous fix, in my opinion. Replacing the entire door?? for basically a broken wire?? I do hope KA has changed their product. We've run into poor industrial design before, from dashboard lights that take hours/big$$$ to replace, and another KA appliance, a built-in microwave, which had to be pulled from the cabinet to change a very special lightbulb.

Ice maker crushes ice but wont dispense Crushed ice

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand that the ice maker in your Frigidaire refrigerator, model# FRS23H7CS, is crushing your ice, but will not dispense the crushed ice. It sounds like the dispenser is possibly jammed. Follow the following steps for a possible resolution:

1)The ice has melted and frozen around the auger due to infrequent use, temperature fluctuations, and/or power outages. Remove the ice container, thaw, and empty the contents. Clean the container, wipe dry, and replace it in the proper position. When new ice is made, dispenser should operate.

2)Ice cubes are jammed between the ice maker and the back of ice container. Remove the ice cubes that are jamming the dispenser.

3)Ice cubes could be frozen together. Use the dispenser often so that cubes do not freeze together.

4)The ice cubes are hollow or smaller than normal. The ice & water filter cartridge could be clogged. Replace the filter cartridge. Dispensing system operates best at 20 - 100 psi water pressure. Well water pressures should fall within this range.

If the above does not work, I suggest resetting your appliance, by either unplugging it or shutting the power off at your home's circuit breaker, for 3-5 minutes. Turn the power back on and try dispensing crushed ice. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your appliances status has changed successfully.

    -Best Regards-
    WP

GE GSH25JFRF BB ice maker doesn't dispense. Water dispenses and ice maker makes ice but won't come out.

There should be a plastice hinge cover on the left top hinge on freezer door. Take it off and press the plug together firmly. Try that and let me know, Sea Breeze

I have a Kenmore side by side, not sure the model, but it's probably 10 years old or so. It has an ice maker with water, cube and crushed ice dispenser. The ice maker works fine, but it will not dispense...

Most of the time the bin has been removed and not put back in properly. When this happens ice blocks the drive motor. Remove the bin and turn the auger by hand make sure it will turn and is not jammed. Now with the bin out push the light button in that turns the light out and have someone push the button for ice while the door is still open the motor should turn in the back make sure thereis no ice blocking it. If it turns nothing is wrong with the motor. The clicking sound is usually the motor jammed by ice or the auger not engaged on the motor. hope this helps good luck

Ice maker only dispenses crushed ice, won't dispense cubed ice anymore.

I have a GE TFX25ppbaaa refrigerator. The ice maker corkscrew motor would run and provide crushed ice only. The corkscrew motor would not run when the switch was moved to the cubed ice ( half moon) setting.

I replaced the large Light/ water/ crushed ice/cubed ice switch , ( product service number GEH WR55X129 ) ( part number GE 162D6372 PO17 )and it fixed the problem. Cost was about $43.00.

Ice maker not getting water after changing filter

Check the following:
Is the freezer door closed completely?
Is the ice storage bin installed correctly?
Is there ice in the storage bin?
Has the ice frozen in the storage bin?
Is ice stuck in the delivery chute?
Has the wrong ice been added to the storage bin? Use only
cubes produced by the current ice maker.
Has the ice melted around the auger (metal spiral) in the
ice bucket?
Dump the ice cubes and clean the ice storage
bin.
Is the ice dispenser stalling while dispensing “crushed”
ice?
Change the ice button from “crushed” to “cubed.” If
cubed ice dispenses correctly, depress the button for
“crushed” ice and begin dispensing again.
Has the dispenser arm been held in too long? Ice will stop
dispensing when the arm is held in too long. Wait 3 minutes
for dispenser motor to reset before using again.

The ON/OFF switch is located on the top right side of the freezer
compartment.
To turn the ice maker on, slide the control to the ON (left) position.
To manually turn the ice maker off, slide the control to the OFF
(right) position.
NOTE: Your ice maker has an automatic shutoff. The ice maker
sensors will automatically stop ice production, but the control will
remain in the ON (left) position

REMEMBER:
Allow 24 hours to produce the first batch of ice. Discard the
first three batches of ice produced.
The quality of your ice will be only as good as the quality of the
water supplied to your ice maker. Avoid connecting the ice
maker to a softened water supply. Water softener chemicals
(such as salt) can damage parts of the ice maker and lead to
poor quality ice. If a softened water supply cannot be avoided,
make sure the water softener is operating properly and is well
maintained

The Dispenser Lock (on some models)
Your dispenser can be turned off for easy cleaning or to prevent
unintentional dispensing by small children and pets.
NOTE: The lock feature does not shut off power to the product, to
the ice maker, or to the dispenser light. It simply deactivates the
dispenser levers. The ice and water dispensers will not work.
Style 1: Press the LOCK BUTTON to lock the dispenser. Press the
UNLOCK button to unlock the dispenser.
Style 2: Press and hold the LOCK OUT button to lock the
dispenser. Press and hold the LOCK OUT button a second time to
unlock the dispenser.
