Google set homepage

You set the home page in Internet Options (for IE, Internet Explorer). If you have software that won't allow a change in home page, you need to disable that software or allow the change.

If malicious software won't allow the change, you can try resetting IE to its default settings, under Internet options, Advanced tab.

If that doesn't work, download the free version of Malwarebytes and/or Adaware from download.com and run one of them.

Cannot boot from cd on OptiPlex gx260

you might have to get rid of the virus or melware first

it sounds like you are on the path if the cd rom is being detected but not booting maybe it needs a clean place a couple of drops of liquid cd cleaner on top of a cd and run it
if still no luck

restart your computer repeatedly tapping the f8 key to enter safe mode while the screen is black once in safe mode where the only things working will be your keyboard and mouse allowing you to attempt to repair your computer

Reboot the computer As the computer is booting repeatadly press the F8 key as the computer is booting

If done properly the user should get to a screen similar to the below screen.

Select the option for Safe mode command prompt only

Windows Advanced Options Menu
Please select an option:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Enable Boot Logging
Enable VGA mode
Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)
Debugging Mode

Start Windows Normally
Reboot
Return to OS Choices Menu

Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice

select the safe mode option

then run your antivirus if still cant get rid of the virus restart again

Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice.

select safe mode with networking download anti malware and microsoft security essentials

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/virus-malware.aspx?q=virus

anti virus and malware

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/security-essentials

During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup usually the Delete or the F2 key

Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS the using arrow key scroll down to advanced bios features press enter change your first boot device to cd,press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart

hope this helps

You may have tried this already but here is the download page for the drivers to your computer: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsdr&catid=-1&impid=-1&os=WW1&osl=en&ServiceTag=5WXRQ31 Find the DVD or CD driver for your manufacturer, then download extract and run it. If the driver isn't missing, the drive may be defective or not connected properly.

Hi yesterday I tried to download a PDF file and halfway through the download the screen wentblank white and now this is happening regularley, I also have been playing a cricket game on the hard drive...

Hi Kevin,

Here are some area's to look into:

  • The Advance tap in System Properties, check the Performance settings. Under Visual Effects, you may want to choose "adjust for best performance". This helps reduce memory uses. And in the "Advance" tab check the virtual memory. Generally, the paging file should be 1.5 times the amount of memory installed. Or you can use the recommended by the system. Again, this will help reduce memory uses.
  • Go to your Display Properties and change the the Color resolution to 16 bit.
  • Check if there is an update driver for your network adapter.
  • Perform disk cleanup and defrag.
  • Then reboot.
Performing these steps will take time but should help.

Good luck and thank you

Cd rom

Where can I get the driver for my CD-ROM?
Visit our hardware download section to obtain a generic CD-ROM driver (oakcdrom.sys) and mscdex.exe if needed.
If you are looking for a specific driver for your CD-ROM drive or a Firmware update, please see our CD-ROM driver page.
